About This File
X-Plane 10+ Scenery--Fraser River Canyon B.C. Version 1. The Fraser Canyon is an 84 km landform of the Fraser River where it descends rapidly through narrow rock gorges in the Coast Mountains en route from the Interior Plateau of British Columbia to the Fraser Valley. At Hells Gate, near Boston Bar, the canyon walls rise about 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) above the rapids. The area around Hells Gate carries the name Black Canyon, which may either be a reference to the colour of the rocks when it rains, or the name of a community built on the cliffsides here during the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush. Nestled in between Lillooet and Hope, BC are the now defunct and de-commissioned airstrips of Lytton and Boston Bar. CWLY- Lytton is a very rough dirt strip 2,028 long by 80 feet wide, at an altitude of 975' MSL. CA57- Boston Bar is a very rough dirt strip 1,700 long by 45 feet wide, although a fair sized apron for overshoot is available (making sure to miss the restaurant and parked cars on the side of the highway). It is at an altitude of 1,095 MSL and is just a few miles upriver from the famous Hells Gate.
