  6. FS2004 Scenery--Missing Bell 206B Textures

FS2004 Scenery--Missing Bell 206B Textures. There has been a report of an FS2004 message popping up requesting the texture "Bell 206B" to be added to the scenery texture folder; unfortunately I was not told which scenery. This is probably to do with my transfer of all FS2004 files from one laptop that had died to a new one. Presumably "all" wasn't quite what I achieved. Please do NOT leave a message attached to the scenery posting! Email me for something like this. If you get the message put this folder in the texture folder of whichever scenery you are directed to. I stress that I mean "THE FOLDER" and not just the contents of the folder. By Roger Wensley.

  7. FS2004 Scenery--Missing Texture AS350 Blackcomb

FS2004 Scenery--Missing Texture AS350 Blackcomb. Missing texture message (after downloading Fort Nelson CYYE in British Columbia, Canada FORT_NELSON_BC.ZIP). There have been some reports of messages popping up requesting the texture "AS 350 Blackcomb" to be added to the Homer texture folder, or to the Medicine Hat texture folder. This is probably due to do with my transfer of all FS2004 files from one laptop that had died to a new one. Presumably "all" wasn't quite what I achieved. This message seems to appear after installing Fort Nelson scenery, but that is probably just a coincidence and Fort Nelson probably has nothing to do with it. If you get the message put this folder in the texture folder of whichever scenery you are directed to. I stress that I mean "THE FOLDER" and not just the contents of the folder. By Roger Wensley.

  8. FS2004 Scenery--Fort Nelson CYYE in British Columbia, Canada

FS2004 Scenery--Fort Nelson CYYE in British Columbia, Canada. Fort Nelson is close to the Peace River in the northeast corner of British Columbia, around 70 miles from the northern border, 90 from the eastern border, and 80 miles east of the Rockies. The wartime construction of the Alaska Highway actually started from Fort Nelson, as there was already a road from Fort St John (which is close to Dawson Creek) north to Fort Nelson. The airfield was part of this construction effort and after the war-time ferrying of planes to Russia it was used by the US Army Air Force and then by the Canadian Air Force. Fort Nelson flourished with the oil and gas exploration of the 1950's and the following years, and this continued to grow until the collapse of the oil price in 2014. The town of Fort Nelson became the capital of the Northern Rockies Regional District when it (the District) was founded in 2009, and as a result the official name of the Fort Nelson airport is the Northern Rockies Regional Airport. The date for this scenery is around 2016, by which time the economic fortunes of the town were in decline. Five times per day flights by Central Mountain Air were starting to be reduced in number to the current (in 2022) one per day and none on Sunday; in the AI included here there are two flights per day. The main resident users of the airport are four helicopter companies, the helicopters presumably used for maintenance trips to whatever parts of the oil and gas fields that are still in use in the surrounding area. There are two runways, the main one is aligned 03-21, 6,400 feet long and 200 feet wide, with ILS at the southern end and PAPI at the northern. The second runway (a narrower rebuild on a previously existing runway) is aligned 07-25 and 77 feet wide, and is without any lights. These are the alignments as per the original build of FS9 and not as per the approximate 2016 date of the buildings; I had a problem at a very late stage in making this scenery which prevented me from continuing with some final details. On YouTube there is a series of posts by Angle of Attack showing the preparation and then the flight of an old Cessna 172 from Homer to Oshkosh for the installation of modern instruments. Interesting for me as they visit or fly over airfields I have made (Homer, Merrill, Tok Junction, Burwash, Silver City, Haines Junction, Watson Lake, Fort Nelson, and Grande Prairie) but in the winter so it all looks very different. Fort Nelson appears at 22 minutes into the video. By Roger Wensley.

  9. FS2004 Simplified FIR Center Boundaries

FS2004 Simplified FIR Center Boundaries. Tired to be constantly handed over by the default ATC from one center frequency to another one? Here it comes a simplification of the boundaries for the FIR centers in FS2004. The boundaries for Flight Information Regions (FIRs) in some areas (for example around Chicago) are subdivided into many smaller sectors, each with a different Center frequency. The result is that, while flying at above 10,000 feet you constantly get handed over from one frequency to the next one. This file corrects this effect, by assigning the same COM frequency to all sectors a specific FIR is subdivided into. This means, for example, that "Chicago control" will have the same frequency all over the Chicago FIR; and the same applies for all the FIRs in the world. The result is that you are handed over only at the border of a FIR (for example when going from Chicago control to Cleveland Control), resulting in a much more pleasant ATC experience, especially in certain areas rich of FIR partitions. 11. FS2004 Scenery--Munich Cargo Erding Fantasy

FS2004 Scenery--Munich (Muenchen) Cargo Erding Fantasy Germany. It is about the further "fantasy" use of the former Luftwaffe airbase "Erding" in the southeast of Airport Munich 2 / Erdinger Moos / Franz Josef Strauss / Munich. This was converted here for further use as Munich's cargo airport. The airbase was used by the Air Force from 1935 to 2014. In 2021 there will only be a test facility for dynamic components from Airbus and refugee accommodation. The actual history of the airbase in the further original can be read on Wikipedia. The following PRG and scenery should be used for this purpose: FScene X from Justflight and German Airport 1 from Aerosoft. Also suitable for Traffic Fs2004 or similar. By Black Baron.

  12. FS2004 Scenery--Goose Bay Canadian Forces Base and US Air Base

FS2004 Scenery--Goose Bay Canadian Forces Base and US Air Base. Goose Bay Canadian Forces Base and US Air Base (CYYR), Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, 1955-62. Originally built to facilitate the transport of US aircraft to Europe during the Second World War, during the Cold War Goose Bay was a base of major importance. Like nearby Gander it was a vital refuelling point for transatlantic crossings, but also along with the recently released Ernest Harmon Air Base (CYJT) an important part of the defences against the threat of Soviet bombers carrying muclear weapons attacking the USA via the North Pole. F-89 Scorpions and then F-102 Delta Daggers were based there, and this download includes F-89s especially made for this scenery by David Wooster. Flight plans are provided for 1955, 1957, 1959 and 1962, doing much to recreate this significant Cold War base as it really was; many of the aircraft which passed through Goose at that time are provided for. This scenery is based on the excellent scenery produced by Flight Ontario in 2008 and requires the prior installation from this site of GOOSEBAY.ZIP and GOOSEFIX.ZIP Without these files it will simply not work. This file is an update to the scenery issued in October 2021, made necessary by the discovery of new information as a result of further historical research. There have also been changes to the ADE and traffic files intended to improve the performance of both, and to the navaids too. Instructions are included for those installing from scratch and those updating our previous version, and there have been improvements to the clarity of the instructions for the downloading and installation of the ai aircraft. There will be no further updates. By Al Von Pingel, Dan French, Bill Douglas and Ken Lawson.

  13. FS2004 Scenery--World Trade Center 2021 V1

FS2004 Scenery--World Trade Center 2021 V1. I hope this scenery mod will serve as a reminder and as a nice addition to refresh the look of New York in your simulator. I also hope it will improve your flying experience. Its based on google photos, custom textures and personal experience. It might not be 100% accurate in details on the ground level, but it was made to be as close as possible to the real World Trade Center. Give it a try. Friendly advice - The mod WTC looks even better in combination with NewYork by Aerosoft or Manhattan X. By SimPilot1998.

  16. FS2004 Scenery-- Medicine Hat CYXH

FS2004 Scenery-- Medicine Hat CYXH in Alberta Canada + Schlenker CFZ3. Medicine Hat is a town in south Alberta, beside the South Saskatchewan River, and around 180 miles southeast of Calgary. Originally a railroad town, and in fact still served by the railway and now also by the Trans-Canada Highway, it is currently mainly known for the large natural gas fields in the area. As Rudyard Kipling said, Medicine Hat has "all hell for a basement". The name of the city is a translation of the Blackfoot tribal name for the eagle tail feather headdress worn by tribal medicine men, and it was curiosity about the name that first got my attention. The date of this scenery is not 2010, as is usual for my scenery; it is more like 2015. The terminal building has been extended and improved, the apron around the two large southern hangars and the large rental hangars behind them is still visibly new, and the tie-down parking places on the grass accessed off one side of the old taxiway are in place and in use. The airport is now (2015) not in the busy usage that it experienced in the second half of the 1900's and old taxiways and a runway have been left to decay and large old hangars have been demolished. Hence the visible remains. The current runways were rebuilt (on top of the existing as foundations) and are 03-21 with 4,990 feet of lit asphalt 150 feet wide with PAPI at both ends, and 09-27 with 2,885 feet of lit asphalt 100 feet wide. The two newish hangars to the south are a helicopter operating and maintenance company with a flight training school based in the adjoining offices (light grey buildings) and an FBO in hangar and offices (dark grey). Further buildings have been erected since then, and some existing ones have been reclad (eg. light grey now has a light blue roof). I have cheated in one respect. In reality, the edges of the airport have been gradually utilised for various purposes, such as workshops, storage sheds, factories, etc, with access from the surrounding urban roads. As I have almost no information regarding their appearance I decided to leave the airport area as it was originally built, rather than incorporating buildings that I know are false. I admit that this was also the laziest solution. The scenery includes a grass strip 3 miles to the south of Medicine Hat, namely Schlenker CFZ3. It is the only airfield I have come across where the fences are not around the edge of the airfield, they are instead around the runways and apron. I presume this is so animals can be left to feed off the grass in summer. The AI includes flights by Air Canada Jazz. The video shows some of the new buildings as of 2020. By Roger Wensley.

  17. FS2004 Scenery--Burwash CYDB in Yukon Territory Canada

FS2004 Scenery--Burwash CYDB in Yukon Territory Canada. Burwash Landing is a very small village in the Yukon Territory, Canada, situated amid the Rocky Mountains at the northern end of Kluane Lake and some 30 miles from Silver City. The airfield, called just "Burwash" in the Nav Canada listing, is 2 miles northwest of the village and adjacent to the Alaska Highway. The runway is 5,000 feet of lit gravel aligned 10-19 and 130 feet wide, with VASI at each end. The date of this scenery is, as usual, around 2010. There is a company based at the airfield called Rocking Star Adventures, which is engaged in the same activity as the other companies at Haines Junction and Silver City, ie taking tourists around the glaciers of Kluane National Park. The park is very impressive from the air, as shown in the video taken from a Rocking Star Adventures plane. The AI was included with the Haines Junction post. By Roger Wensley.

  18. FS2004 Scenery--Silver City CFQ5 in Yukon Territory Canada

FS2004 Scenery--Silver City CFQ5 in Yukon Territory Canada. Silver City is a ghost town in the Yukon Territory, Canada, amid the Rocky Mountains and around 35 miles northwest of Haines Junction. It is on the southern end of Kluane Lake and in the Kluane National Park and this probably explains it's (minimal) survival after what appears to have been the shutdown of mining for silver. There is little information readily available. There was no recent regular service by Yukon Air North or any other airline, and the primary user of the airfield adjacent to the lake is a company called Icefield Discovery Tours. Their activity is probably very similar to the company at Haines Junction and involves trips to the National Park amid mountains and glaciers. There is also another organisation at the airfield, the Kluane Lake Research Station of the Arctic Institute. They have four buildings there but it is unclear how much aerial activity they generate, or if in fact they fly at all for their work. The runway is 3,000 feet of unlit gravel, aligned north-south. This post will be followed by Burwash, which is at the far northwestern end of the lake. There is no video of the Silver City airfield on Youtube, and it is not the most exciting airfield in the world, but the location is enough in real life for a visit to be made. By Roger Wensley.

  19. FS2004 Scenery--Haines Junction CYHT in Yukon Territory Canada

FS2004 Scenery--Haines Junction CYHT in Yukon Territory Canada. Haines Junction is a village in the Yukon Territory, Canada, amid the Rocky Mountains and around 80 miles west of Whitehorse. It is sited at the junction of the Haines Highway and the Alaska Highway, hence the name. The village was established in 1942 when the Alaska Highway was under construction, and the Haines Highway was built over the Chilkat Pass to connect to the town of Haines on the Alaska coast. The date of this scenery is, as usual, around 2010. At that time there was a regular service (not always a daily one, depending on the time of year) by Yukon Air North, and in this case it is by an ATR 42-300. There is a helicopter company based at the airfield, Trans North Helicopters, and there is also Kluane Glacier Air Tours, which, as the name suggests, takes you to a glacier so you can stroll around on ice. And then brings you back. The gravel runway is 5,000 feet long and aligned 04-22, and is lit, with PAPI at both ends. Right hand circuits are required for runway 04 as the terrain is not flat. This post will be followed by two other airfields to the northwest, Silver City and Burwash, both of which are on or close to the Alaska Highway. By Roger Wensley.

FS2004 Scenery--Ernest Harmon Air Force Base and Stephenville Airport (CYJT), Newfoundland, Canada, 1957-62. Like nearby Gander it was a vital refuelling point for transatlantic crossings, but also an important part of the defences against the threat of Soviet bombers carrying muclear weapons attacking the USA via the North Pole. 23. FS2004 Scenery--McKenzie Airfield, South Africa

FS2004 Scenery--McKenzie Airfield, South Africa. Have you ever visited the "Hangar Cafe"? Great place to have a meal and get lost in conversation with fellow aviators and aviation lovers. McKenzie Airfield does not appear in the default FS2004, neither is the town of Richmond included. This package will add a custom (Gmax) made McKenzie Airfield (AWK5), Richmond, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa with photoreal textures and ground textures. The included Landclass file will also add the town. The small airfield as well as the adjacent McKenzie Plant-hire yard, has been recreated with custom true to life models and photoreal textures. McKenzie airfield is also home to the "Hangar Cafe" and an ex-SAAF Bosbok. The runway is not too challenging, just keep the aircraft in the middle and away from the trees right next to the runway. All the electrical high-wires have also been included in the scenery as it plays a prominent role in the look and feel of the airfield as has the flower beds. The grass runway is aligned 11/29 and only 800m long. By Kobus van Wyk.

  24. FS2004 Scenery--Cordova Smith PACV and Municipal CKU

FS2004 Scenery--Cordova Smith PACV and Municipal CKU in Alaska (AK), USA. Cordova is on the south coast of Alaska, around 150 miles east of Anchorage and 45 miles south of Valdez. The town is mainly built on a small but relatively flat area between the east side of Prince William Sound and Eyak Lake, and has a population of around 2,350 in 2010, the approximate date of this scenery. There is no road connection to the outside world and in fact the road to the to the PACV airport and has been moved over to make more space for a longer runway. The Municipal Airfield CKU is on the north side of Eyak Lake to the east of Cordova, with the runway that is 1,800 feet of unlit gravel squeezed between the lake and the road that runs around the lake. The hangars and parking aprons are reached by taxiing across, and to some extent along, the road. Float planes are also taken from the lake to an apron to the west of the runway. Cordova Airport PACV (named in the real world "Merle K. (Mudhole) Smith", and I will leave you to research this) is known as Cordova Smith in FS9 and is 10 miles to the east of the town on relatively flat ground between mountains to the north and the sea to the south. The runway is 8,080 feet of lit asphalt aligned 09-27 with ILS on runway 27 and VASI on both ends. The aprons are to the north side of the runway and are reached by back-taxiing; there are no taxiways parallel to the runway. The main apron serves Alaska Air via the western of two taxiways. The GA parking and hangars are mainly reached by using the eastern taxiway, though there is in fact a connecting taxiway between the two (for GA, but definitely not for airliner use). The taxiway further to the west serves the separated Alaska Coastguard apron and hangar, which is mainly for helicopter use. There is a nominally grass runway 1,900 feet long and aligned 16-34 to the south of the main runway; in fact it appears to be more gravel than grass. I have left this inactive as otherwise AI Alaska Air planes would be attempting to use this when the wind made it seem like a good idea. The AI includes Alaska Air (twice a day) and also Coastguard helicopters, along with GA. You might notice in the video that some of the hangars have been updated with revised colour schemes since 2010, for instance the Coast Guard hangar. By Roger Wensley.
