Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located inthe western United States, largely in the northwest corner of Wyomingand extending into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the 42ndU.S. Congress with the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act andsigned into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1,1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is alsowidely held to be the first national park in the world.

Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes inNorth America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, thelargest super volcano on the continent. The caldera is considered adormant volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times inthe last two million years. Well over half of the world's geysers andhydrothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoingvolcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most ofthe land area of Yellowstone.

This month we are on a tour of Yellowstone Lake and the Caldera, aflight that should cover a minimum of 100nm.
