Not just the capital ofBelgium, but by many seen as the de facto capital of Europe, being thecenter stage for European and global politics post WW2 and the home tonumerous companies and NGOs. A bustling city also needs an airport capable of handling anythingfrom the average tourist, suitcase toting CEO, overworked diplomat oreven a head of state or two. /images/notams/notams22/brs0420/mega-airport-brussels-1.jpgBrussels Airport, or Brussels-National as it's also known islocated 12 km north-east of Brussels in the municipality ofZaventem. Serving close to 25 million passengers in 2019 it clocked inas the 24th busiest airport in Europe. 4. Mega Airport Zurich Professional v2Publisher: AerosoftReview Author: MrYorkiesWorldSuggested Price: $29.95/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.png /images/reviews/zurichpr/t/mega-zurich-pro-03.jpgIntroductionHello there everyone, my name isMrYorkiesWorld, and this is going to be my review of Aerosoft's MegaAirport Zurich v2 Professional for P3D V4 and P3D V5. I'm extremelyexcited to be giving this product a review, and I'd like to thank mygood friend Dom Smith from FlightSim.Com for giving me the chance tocheck this scenery out. Zurich Airport (ICAO: LSZH) is Switzerland's largest airport, serving the city of Zurich, and most of the country itself. It'salways been an airport I wanted to visit in real life, and certainlyone I've been looking forward to testing out inside the simulator. Simulator CompatibilityAs the "Professional" in the title suggests, this scenery iscompatible with both P3D V4 and P3D V5, and the buildings and someother parts of the scenery have been optimized for P3D V4. Addon CompatibilityFor those of you who have Orbx scenery installed and trafficadd-ons etc. this scenery should work great for you. Personally,I've been using Orbx FTX Global, Open LC Europe and Orbx Trees HD. Ialso use add-ons such as Ultimate Traffic Live and Pro ATC X, all ofwhich have had no issues in terms of functionality or recognisingtaxiways, gates etc. for this scenery. The scenery also comes with its own config tools which allow you tofurther customize things to work well with the add-ons and setup thatyou have. InstallationAs expected with most Aerosoft products, this scenery was veryquick and easy to install, taking around five minutes or so. This will bedependant on your system specs, however. You're asked for your email address along with the serial numberyou got when you purchased the scenery, and that's literally justabout it - nothing too strenuous involved which is always nice to seewith any scenery. In my case, the process of installing the scenery also involvesupdating the scenery data for my add-ons such as Pro ATC X andAivlasoft's EFB V2, which I'd highly recommend you do if you own theseproducts because it will help to make sure everything works in harmonyas it should. First ImpressionsAfter initially installing the scenery into the sim, I went throughthe usual process of loading up the sim and checking the sceneryout. I noticed all the runways were there, and they are correctlynumbered as they should be, and the ground and terminal textures lookvery crisp and sharp. A lot of attention has been given to the ground markings such astaxiways and signage, and even the runway textures look amazing whichis something you don't always get with scenery from otherdevelopers. I was sort of expecting to see great buildings and groundtextures, but poor runway ones, so this was a nice surprise as everfrom Aerosoft. The terminal building is very well designed, and the jetways looknicely modelled. The apron area also seems to be really high qualitywith plenty of static and animated vehicles driving around and addingto the realism. /images/reviews/zurichpr/t/mega-zurich-pro-02.jpgNight LightingNight lighting is an important part of any scenery in thesimulator. For me personally, I don't do many night flights, but whenI do occasionally decide to do one, I like to see a well-lit airportwith realistic night lighting. I was quite impressed with how well this scenery actually looks atnight time. A lot of sceneries from different developers struggles tocapture the right balance, but Aerosoft seem to have done it prettywell. As you can see from the screen shot above, the textures still lookquite detailed and don't lose a lot of their quality. This issomething you might find with certain scenery items where the textureshave more of a grainy effect happening at night, and I'm happy to saythis particular scenery doesn't have this issue. Although you don't get the grainy textures as much here, I havenoticed the coloring of the ground textures seems a little off atnight. Maybe this is just me or my setup, but I don't think it reallyaffects the scenery in a negative enough way that I'd be put offbuying it. PerformancePerformance is actually really good. I noticed in the daytime I'mgetting a good, smooth experience with around 45 - 55 fps, and that'staking into consideration the fact that I use Ultimate Traffic Live,as well as several other add-ons such as the PMDG 747. Outside thevirtual cockpit I usually get 60 fps, but this is completely normal ineven the most complex airport scenery if you're not in the virtualcockpit view. Performance at night time might drop a little, but that can beexpected due to the way P3D works with dynamic lighting, etc. I don'ttend to do much flying at night as a rule, so this isn't somethingthat really bothered me overall. /images/reviews/zurichpr/t/mega-zurich-pro-01.jpgGraphicsAs mentioned earlier, the textures and models in this scenery lookreally good. They've been optimized for P3D V4, which has then beencarried over to P3D V5 as well, and everything looks really nice andcrisp. Daytime textures look fantastic, and night time ones have the smallissue I mentioned earlier with the color looking a little off, butagain, that could just be my personal setup and opinion. I don't thinkits worth complaining about too much as it doesn't affect theusability of the airport itself in the simulator. Bugs / IssuesOne of the issues I did notice, which might not even be down to thescenery itself, is the accuracy of the ILS frequencies. I comparedthem with the real-world frequencies for one or two of the runwaysafter encountering some issues with an ILS approach in the 747, andnoticed some discrepancies, however with any scenery I think itsperfectly acceptable for there to be one or two imperfections, andagain, these might even be down to something else in my setup, and notthe actual scenery at all. Final Verdict / PricingSo altogether I'm extremely impressed with this scenery. It looksgood, performs well and seems pretty close to the real thing overall, and I really enjoyed taking my own custom livery over to Zurich toexplore this airport and its surrounding areas virtually. I'd highly recommend the scenery to anyone who, like me, wantssomething new in their simulator, and wants an accurate and realisticrendition of Switzerland's largest airport! If you want to pick up this scenery, the price at the FlightSim.ComStore is currently $29.95 (around £23.67) which I think is areally reasonable price for what you get. Finally, thanks again to my friends over at FlightSim.Com forproviding this scenery for a review! /images/reviews/zurichpr/mega-zurich-professional.jpgMrYorkiesWorld Purchase Aerosoft - Mega Airport Zurich Professional v2

Also the static people and animated vehicle trafficcreate a lifelike rendition. The ground layout has been created from scratch based on highresolution aerial images and it complies with the current data of thecharts. What is special about our scenery is that it represents thecomplete and finished development condition of the real worldcounterpart. The airport has three runways, two of which crossing eachother. Additionally, the airport has three docks - A, B and E. Dock B,as the oldest, was shut down in 2003 and from there on served as aso-called event dock which was available for rent for variousevents. 6. Mega Airport Oslo V2Publisher: AerosoftReview Author: MrYorkiesWorldSuggested Price: $24.95/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.pngIntroduction /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-12.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-07.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-04.jpgHello everyone, MrYorkiesWorld here again with yet another sceneryreview - this time we're going to be taking a look at Aerosoft's MegaAirport Oslo v2 for FSX and P3D. Since it's now winter in my part of the world, I decided to choosea nice Norwegian airport that I knew would go down well at this timeof the year. As many of you will no doubt know, Oslo is the capital city ofNorway, and the airport itself (ENGM) is its main internationalairport, seeing numerous flights throughout the year. It is especiallybusy around Christmas and the new year, which brings with it a regularcovering of snow, which can last until mid-April. So without further delay, let's get right into the nitty gritty ofthis scenery from Aerosoft. Coverage Area /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-11.jpgAs per the description on the Aerosoft web site, this product is ahighly realistic rendition of the real scenery, and although Icouldn't find an exact figure to say exactly how far out the detailgoes for this airport, it's obvious from being inside the simulatorand parked at the gate, that there is a massive amount included. Graphics And Performance /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-17.jpgOne of the main reasons I decided on this scenery, was because Ihad a feeling it would prove to be rather atmospheric on my sim, especially at this time of year. As per norm, my chosen platform was P3D V4.5, and straight away Inoticed that the scenery provided smooth frame rates, even with thein-sim slider settings set to the middle / right. I was even able touse additional features such as dynamic lighting and specialeffects. During my testing, I was able to get a decent 45 - 60 fps inside ofthe virtual cockpit, with the usual 60 fps outside, which is normal formost sceneries of this type and size - at least for me with myhardware setup. The textures on both the ground and the terminal buildings lookincredible (day and night), even though they are only 2048resolution. For me, this is especially important because when I fly toOslo in the simulator, it's usually around Christmas for aChristmas-themed flight, so I really love how everything looked socrisp and realistic. Another aspect I really enjoyed was how the scenery has beenoptimized for P3D V4. Things such as dynamic lights on the de-icingtrucks (which is new for P3D V4), and the dynamic flood lights, reallyadd that extra bit of realism and immersion. /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-01.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-02.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-09.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-10.jpgFeaturesAs ever, Aerosoft doesn't disappoint, and their list of featureswhich are included with the P3D V4 version of this scenery is prettyextensive: Fully compatible with FSX and P3DHigh quality models and photo real texturesHigh resolution runways and taxiwaysHighly realistic night time effectsHigh resolution textures included as an option (2048)All buildings and installations at and around the airportAnimations create a living atmospherePassenger boarding and deboarding animationsTerminal interior included in high detailSeasonal textures includedFully functional docking system and departure countdown includedCompatible with all AI traffic packagesStatic aircraft included as an option /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-03.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-08.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-13.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-14.jpgSystem RequirementsThe scenery has some basic requirements that you can expect from ascenery such as this. The actual list of requirements is asfollows: Microsoft Flight Simulator X (SP2, Acceleration, Gold Edition or Steam Edition) or Lockheed Martin Prepar3D (v3 or v4)Windows 7, 8, Vista, XPProcessor with 3.0 GHz (Dual Core processor recommended)2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)3D graphics card with 256 MB (512 MB recommended)Download Size: 470 MBInstallation Size: 550 MB /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-05.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-06.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-15.jpg /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-16.jpgIncluded SoftwareThe scenery itself also comes with its own configurationtool. Personally, I love scenery that includes something like this, although I would say it looks a little outdated (my onlycriticism). There are literally no other negatives I would say aboutthe tool - you can see from the screen shot below that it provides allthe options you really need. /images/reviews/arptoslo/t/mega-airport-oslo-18.jpgFinal VerdictSo time for the final verdict, and as ever I am extremely impressedwith yet another brilliant scenery product from Aerosoft. Mega AirportOslo V2 scores a solid 9 / 10 from me, with the only gripe of minebeing the scenery configurator tool which perhaps looks a littleoutdated. Having said that however, it is clear that the tool does itsjob and gives you all of the flexibility and control that you wouldever need. /images/reviews/arptoslo/mega-oslo.jpgMrYorkiesWorld Purchase Aerosoft - Mega Airport Oslo v2
  7. Mega Airport London Heathrow ProPublisher: Sim WingsReview Author: MrYorkiesWorldSuggested Price: $33.95/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.pngIntroduction /images/reviews/megaheat/t/simwings-mega-heathrow-01.jpgHeathrow has always been a 'massive'sort of airport for the flight sim community; by that I mean it'susually been (in most cases), a massive resource hog, and a massivelycomplex scenery to render. The main attraction to it being thatHeathrow (EGLL) is one of the busiest airports in the United Kingdom, with thousands of different flights arriving and departing out of itdaily; both in real life and simulated - especially when you're onVATSIM for example. This particular version of the scenery has been available sinceNovember 2018, and many simulation enthusiasts have called it a "musthave" product! So with that said, I'm extremely happy to be able to review thisscenery courtesy of my friends at FlightSim.Com. Coverage Area /images/reviews/megaheat/t/simwings-mega-heathrow-02.jpgSim Wings (Aerosoft) Mega Airport London Heathrow Professional, features approximately 42 square kilometres of scenery outside of theairport itself, so there's quite a bit to see. It features fullydetailed buildings and scenery so as to make the terminal and airportgrounds look as accurate as possible. On top of this, it also featuresall major taxiways and runways in full detail. Obviously you can change the settings in your simulator to hide orshow certain amounts of detail for this scenery, and it also has itsown configurator tool as well. This means that everyone's experiencewith this scenery will be different, but nonetheless I was extremelyimpressed by the sheer level of detail, even with some of my in-simsliders lowered a little bit to help with performance. Graphics And Performance /images/reviews/megaheat/t/simwings-mega-heathrow-03.jpgOne major concern with any scenery as complex as this isperformance. There have been many horror stories where people simplycan't get this scenery to perform well on their system, with somepeople even claiming to have single figure FPS, with an inability toreach even 10 or 20 FPS in the simulator. I myself have been quite lucky in terms of performance. I use asystem with an i9 9900k CPU overclocked to 5 GHz, and an Nvidia GTX1080 TI which seems to handle things quite well. During testing Iachieved a solid 30 - 40 FPS using the virtual cockpit, and a stable60 FPS when viewing the aircraft from the outside, but even this wasonly achieved after a little bit of tinkering with the settings. Maybethis could be improved a little, I'm not sure, but overall I didn'treally have to change much to get it working the way I liked. Once you get things running properly and you configure things suchas your Orbx settings, the in-sim sliders and the included config toolfor the scenery itself, you can actually get a pretty smooth level ofperformance out of this scenery, even with heavy aircraft such as thePMDG 747 for example. In terms of graphics, I was extremely impressed to see thehigh-resolution ground textures which span the full area of theairport and its surrounding areas (to some extent). I was alsoimpressed to see the terminal buildings, airport signage and otherimmersive aspects of the scenery, and all are very well modelled andtextured, making you feel like you're actually there. The scenery itself features "Fully customized high-resolutionaerial ground textures (about 30 cm/pix) with custom detail texturesfor taxiways, etc." and "actual taxiway layout with new rapid runwayexits and taxiway links" according to Aerosoft. I like the attentionto detail included with this product - I've seen other versions ofHeathrow which still leave a lot of the main details out, so it's niceto see Aerosoft have given it their all on this one. One small issue I did have with this scenery was the textures atnight. I noticed that they seemed quite grainy or pixelated at nighttime, however I then contacted Aerosoft and found that this issue wasbeing caused by TomatoShade, and the preset that I was using at thetime. If you are using third party shader programs, I would highlyrecommend testing them with this scenery, and if the grainy groundtextures are being caused, then you might need to disableTomatoShade. I found that REX Environment Force worked perfectly forme without issue, but your own setup might be slightly different. As I said, Aerosoft was extremely helpful with this and got back tome within a few hours and the problem was sorted, so I can definitelyrecommend them for their helpful customer support. FeaturesAs ever, Aerosoft don't disappoint, and their list of featureswhich are included with the P3D V4 version of this scenery is prettyextensive: Code (BGLs) recompiled and optimized using new material options with P3D V4 SDKAll objects optimized for new shadowing techniquesDynamic lighting (can be disabled partially)Ground layout including detailed aerial imagery created according to P3D V4 SDKNew optimized 3D runway lights (will be switched on and off depending on daytime and weather conditions)AFCAD approaches changed to Airac 1708Adjusted AFCAD parking positionsNew detailed and animated jetway models (CTRL-J)Partially higher resolution texturesPartial closedown of Terminal 1 (currently under construction)Extended configurations menuSystem RequirementsThe scenery has some basic requirements that you can expect from aproduct such as this. The actual list of requirements are as follows: Lockheed Martin - Prepar3D V4Microsoft Windows 7 / 8 / 10 (64 bit)Processor: Quad Core CPU at 3.5 GHzMemory: 16 GB DDR4 RAM (2666 MHz)Graphics card: 8 GB VRAM with DirectX 11Free disk space: at least 2.2 GBIncluded SoftwareSo as mentioned before, this particular scenery comes with its ownconfigurator tool which is pictured below. It essentially allows youto change things such as dynamic lighting effects, traffic effects andwhich runways should be in use - I'll let you be the judge of thishandy little tool: /images/reviews/megaheat/t/simwings-mega-heathrow-04.jpgFinal VerdictAs an individual who has always wanted to fly in and out of thislocation in the past, but didn't due to both hardware limitations anda lack of decent scenery of the area, it gives me great pleasure toaward Aerosoft's rendition of Heathrow a solid 9 out of 10. I wouldonly really knock off a point (being very critical as always) forneeding to turn down the settings quite a bit and do a little bit offiddling around in the simulator to get things runningsmoothly. However, this is just me being very critical, andpersonally, I don't think it's that unreasonable (especially with thedetail on offer), to adjust your settings accordingly. So in effect,it's not necessarily a real criticism, more of...the price you payfor the level of detail on offer. Heathrow comes highly recommended! /images/reviews/megaheat/london-heathrow.jpgMrYorkiesWorld Purchase Sim Wings - Mega Airport London Heathrow Professional
  8. Mega Airport Barcelona ProPublisher: AerosoftReview Author: Alex DickinsonSuggested Price: $32.99/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.png /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-18.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-03.jpgIntroductionAerosoft have been covering Barcelonaas an add-on for over a decade now. They have produced the airport fora variety of platforms including FS2004, FSX and P3D. Their FSX versionMega Airport Barcelona Evolutionwas one of my favorite airports to fly in and out of. Aerosoft have since upgraded their Evolution package to takeadvantage of the new features found in P3D V4 so as to bring a moreenhanced experience. Aerosoft claim that Mega Airport BarcelonaProfessional now offers P3D V4 users Dynamic Lighting, which willchange depending on weather and what time of day it is. Using SDKtechnology, they have been able to use new materials to optimiseperformance as well as improve runway 3D lighting and more. Of course, the product also comes with the usual array of features already foundin the previous versions, such as: high-resolution buildings andtextures of the airport and surrounding area, intensely modelledairport buildings (includes the interior of the new Terminal 1building), plus detailed ground markings, animated vehicle traffic, etc. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-02.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-04.jpgHistoryThe airport was first opened in 1916 and was originally used as abase for Spanish Zeppelins during the first part of the 20th century.Just like many airports during the second world war, it was subject toexpansion and rigorous improvements. In 1948, runway 07-25 was built, which still exists today. Soon after, a third runway was builtperpendicular to runway 07-25, along with a new passenger terminal andtaxiways. During the 1960s the airport yet again saw expansion, withthe runways being extended, as well as new navigational equipmentbeing installed. At the start of the 1970s, the airport first sawflights to America with Pan American who offered flights to New Yorkvia Lisbon. During the same decade, flights started to Madrid - thisroute has since become one of the most pivotal domestic air routes inthe world. Between the 1970s and 1990s the cargo terminal wasbuilt. 1992 was a critical year for the airport as the city was tohost the Olympic games. It was important that the airport was ready tomeet the increased demand, and as such, the airport expanded again andintroduced airbridges on 24 stands. This was not a wasted endeavour asthe airport within the decade, had hit 10 million passengers peryear. Also, In the middle of this decade, the iconic control tower wasopened. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-21.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-06.jpgAt the start of the 21st century, plans were laid to build a newshopping area in terminal B and new boarding modules in terminalA. Later in 2003 the third runway (parallel to the runway 07-25) wasmade operational. The next year the runways were improved to offer ILSCategory II/III in both directions. Improvements to the runwaylighting also helped the airport to operate in times of poor/reducedvisibility. In 2009 the new Terminal 1 reopened with an area of500,000 square meters. Since then, the airport has changed little, but it is possible thatit will expand further. Updates on the infrastructure andcommunication systems are planned and are already underway. High speedrail connections and improved road access are also being considered aswell as a new terminal on the north eastern area of the site. The Airport TodayThe airport today handles over 50 million passengers through itsdoors per year, this makes the airport the seventh busiest inEurope. With two terminals it sits only behind Madrid with four asthe second largest airport in Spain. The airport plays host to over 50airlines serving destinations as far away as Sao Paulo Brazil and HongKong. The airport is also the home of low-cost carriers Vueling andLevel. But unlike many UK airports, Barcelona is owned and operatedunder a government company called Aena. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-07.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-08.jpgInstallationWith any Aerosoft product the installation process is quick, simpleand easy. Usually all you have to do is hit a few buttons and within fiveminutes the airport is installed. Barcelona professional is nodifferent, as it sports a traditional, simple installation process, which comes in very handy for people like me with very littletechnical knowledge who sometimes can even struggle to turn on acomputer. However, during the installation process, I was unexpectedlysurprised to be offered a chart viewer to view LEBL charts. I reallylike this feature, as it's nice not to have to go digging aroundonline (or in folders), to find the relevant charts. However, don'texpect to get a whole collection of airport charts like a Navigraphsubscription. Instead you only get the airport that you have justpurchased, in this case, Barcelona. All the same, I believe this to bea smashing idea by the folks at Aerosoft! Configuration ToolsAfter you have installed the product, you are provided with a menuoption in which to select and deselect various aspects of the scenery(as shown below). /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-22.jpgIf you have a sensitive system where you need to watch thoseframe rates, it can be helpful to play about with this feature, asthis could help optimise performance. In addition, you can also access the manual using this app. Themanual itself is online so you will need an internet connection. Ipersonally felt the manual to be very lacking, as it only had detailsabout installation and a few other features. Also, the manual had manysections written in different languages which made it more difficultto read. Non-Commercial FlightsFor non-commercial flights there is parking available in the northwestern area of the airport near the Iberia maintenance hangar. Thisis labelled on Jeppesen maps as areas R-0 and R-1. Stands 1 - 71 areused for parking a range of aircraft including light Cessnas, tolarger aircraft like the Falcon 900 business jet. This apron has aunique layout because after stands 1 - 11 they gradually get bigger andfurther apart. The area is highly detailed with beautiful groundtextures, just like the rest of the airport. There is also a privateterminal called 'Terminal Corporativa' which is modelled with someexcellent office buildings. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-09.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-11.jpgTaxiway And SignageThe detailed signage on the taxiways and aprons makes it easy tofind your stand with very little trouble. As well as being accurateand clear, they also look realistic both during the day and night. The textures include dirt patches and multiple cracks, which addseven more realism. My only criticism however, is that the cracks seemto be repeated across multiple areas, which slightly downgrades theexperience. Overall though, the taxiways look fantastic and realistic. Most of the taxiways themselves are made of asphalt and this can beobserved by the black textures used on most of the taxiways. Whenentering the ramp however, the textures turn grey to replicateconcrete, which again, is highly authentic. Cargo And Passenger Terminal BuildingsWhen it comes to the terminal buildings, they are beautifullymodelled and highly accurate. Terminal 1 has a full interior modelled(something not seen on the majority of airport sceneries), and whichadds to the authenticity and overall experience. Many details such asflight information screens, passengers and the boarding gatesthemselves are present, and it all looks fantastic. However, I amslightly disappointed that this feature could not be replicated forTerminal 2. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-01.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-16.jpgWhen it comes to the cargo terminal, the level of detailing is nodifferent. There are many superb buildings placed in accurate areas, and as such, you can really tell that Aerosoft have got a real eye fordetail. Of course, all the cargo operators such as DHL and FedEx havetheir own buildings which are included, and placed appropriately. One of the things I did notice however, was that there were nostatic aircraft. This was a feature included in previous versions ofthe scenery, but Aerosoft have not included it in the V4 version. Inall honesty though, I have to say this is a feature I will not miss,as I felt the static aircraft on the FSX version where lacking indetail. The Automatic Docking System is available on most of the stands, and will place your aircraft on its associated parking line (dependingon aircraft). The jetways themselves are well modelled and are just like the realones found at Barcelona, but unfortunately, they are not SODE bydefault. It is possible to enable SODE jetways by downloading a patchfrom the Sim-wings web site. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-20.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-10.jpgThe Iberia maintenance hangar stands as a towering building acrossthe entire complex, and as I had seen photos of the hangar doors open(showing aircraft inside), I was eager to see if this was possible inthis scenery. However, after investigating, I cannot find a way toopen the doors as they are closed by default. You can also find many airport vehicles scattered about the place, such as push back tugs and passenger buses. These animated vehiclesstick to the roads and do not cross live taxiways or runways, so thereis no danger of crashing into them whilst taxiing about. RunwaysThe runways themselves feature many small details that yet againadd to the authenticity of the scenery. They are covered in tire markswhich adds to a slightly worn look. Also, just like the realBarcelona, they have rapid exits almost everywhere. The piano keys andmarkings are placed where you would expect them to be, and overallprovide a very good representation. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-19.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-13.jpgLightingOne of the main advantages of using P3D V4, is its use of dynamiclighting. This is perhaps most noticeable at night, as stands, terminal buildings and runways all look great. Compared to the FSXversion, it is a big improvement. You can now see 3D lights on therunways, and the difference they make is quite remarkable. The only criticism I have with the lighting is the intensity ofthem near the runways. The flashing orange lights that you see beforeyou get on the runway are dim, as are the taxiway signs. PerformanceWhen it comes to performance it is important to note that this willdiffer for everyone. Different specifications of computers mean thatsome may be able to deliver more FPS (frames per second) thanothers. I have just purchased a new PC specially for P3D V4, but Iwould not describe it as top of the line. As such I keep my FPS lockedat 24 FPS, as I find this setting to be the most optimal. During thewhole time I was testing this product, I had no freezing issues, norany other similar issues even when using Active Sky, GSX andVpilot. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-17.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-14.jpgSurrounding AreasAerosoft have also included a photo scenery with this product, andone I believe enhances the scenery no end. When flying an approach torunway 25R, you can see the beautiful city of Barcelona to your right, and in my mind, makes for one of the most picturesque approaches inEurope! GSXIf the airport cache is up to date, you should have no issues usingGSX. GSX is seamlessly integrated with this airport, and I experiencedno issues whatsoever. However, I would prefer to use the dockingsystem to help me park, rather than the marshaller, just to ensure Ipark right on the line. ConclusionOverall, I am very impressed with this version of Barcelona fromAerosoft. Thanks in part to P3D v4, this upgraded scenery offers afantastic experience both during the day and at night. Combined withfantastic performance as well as large amounts of detail, this airportis certainly high on my favorites list (I just can't get enough offlying into and out of this airport). There are only one or two smallthings that could be improved on, but these are all minor. /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-15.jpg /images/reviews/megabarc/t/mega-airport-barcelona-12.jpgSo, if you are looking to fly into the great Catalan city ofBarcelona, then Aerosoft's P3D V4 version is definitely one of thebest! 9. Mega Airport Madrid ProPublisher: Sim-WingsReview Author: MrYorkiesWorldSuggested Price: $32.99/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.pngHello there guys, my name isMrYorkiesWorld, and this is going to be my short, but hopefullyto-the-point review of Sim-Wings (published by Aerosoft) Mega AirportMadrid Professional which was very kindly provided to me by my friendsover at FlightSim.Com. It's an absolutely fantastic piece of scenery, and one I was really excited to review, so let's get to it... /images/reviews/megamadr/t/madrid-terminal.jpgSo a few videos back we flew into Madrid for the first time on thechannel with Ryanair flight 3187 from Manchester. It was a little windy and we did have a last-minute runway changedue to the weather, however we did manage to get a glimpse of theterminal buildings and the surrounding areas of the airport. Theairport itself being extremely large, did cause our frame rates to dipbelow 21 FPS at some points, but overall I was very impressed withwhat I saw. Now, this Madrid scenery in question from Aerosoft covers LEMD,which is also known as Madrid Barajas Airport, as well as some of thesurrounding area. LEMD is the main international airport in the regionof Madrid, and it's extremely detailed and looks fantastic in thedaytime. During the evening, things start to look even betterstill. SODE jetways are supported with this scenery which is great, andthe aerial imagery actually covers an area of around 400 squarekilometers, covering both the airport itself, and the surroundingareas. There is also the option to configure the airport to use north orsouth approaches if that's something you wish to change, and adetailed AFCAD is also included which contains the correct parkingpositions and approach procedures. I found this to really help withthe immersion and made the scenery feel more authentic. One of the great things about this scenery is that according to thespecial features list, all of the code (BGL files) are compiled usingP3D V4 SDK, making it perfectly optimized for P3D V4 and onwards. The only issues I did find that could contradict the above are thestutters and frame rate issues that I experienced when landing at theairport. This happened even when I reduced some of the optionalelements of the scenery during the install procedure. As many of you will know from my previous reviews, I have a prettybeefy system with an Intel Core i9 9900k and a GTX 1080TI, but evenwith this, I still struggled with frame rate issues at times, occasionally going below 25 FPS. Not a huge issue, but definitelysomething the developers should look at. Taking into consideration how large and complex the airport isthough, I'd have to say this might have something to do with the lowFPS, and it might be the case that there is literally nothing you cando about it. Overall though, the scenery works well, and looks great,so that's literally just me being critical about the performance. The config tool included with this scenery also allows you tocontrol dynamic lights by enabling or disabling them depending on yourpreference. I personally prefer to have them enabled for extraimmersion, since I also use a third-party lighting tool called BlackMarble from Chris Bell. I decided to take quite a few different shots of the evening timein this scenery because in my opinion it looks amazing (better thanwhen totally black). It really gives you the feeling you're there inreal life, and it's great when you're departing or arriving in theevening. /images/reviews/megamadr/t/madrid-sunset.jpgAll gates and stands in the airport have functional dockingsystems, and the airport terminals themselves also have objectsvisible through the windows which I found to be a nice touch (theseare probably more noticeable at night). One thing I would like to see in this scenery though are moredetailed ground textures in the surrounding areas, such as where thestatic model aircraft is located just outside of the airportgrounds. Although this is modelled and looks great, you can see thatthe ground textures around it are a little pixelated. Perhaps thedevelopers could improve on this in some way. Again, this is me beingcritical and it's not something which I feel is essential in order toenjoy the scenery. /images/reviews/megamadr/t/madrid-display.jpgMoving on from evening to night, I found the lighting to be good, but there where areas which I felt could have been improved on. Oneexample being that I found the runway lights weren't as bright as theycould be, but this might be due to my own set of in-sim configurations(you could try modifying this with the Global Lights Configurator fromOrbx, or a similar tool. I also observed that the night lighting looked rather synthetic andunrealistic once it was fully dark, and not as good as it looked inthe evening time around sunset. However, this is not something thatwould stop me buying this scenery, and it may just be down to my ownsettings as previously mentioned. So, as I like to keep the written element of my reviews as short aspossible and to the point, how would I rate Aerosoft's Mega AirportMadrid Professional out of 10? Well, with everything taken intoconsideration, I feel the scenery is worth a solid 8.5 out of 10, withthe only reason for not making it a 9 being down to the performanceand lighting issues. As mentioned, I am quite critical when reviewingthese sorts of products, and I try to be as honest as possible. Thanks for reading! 10. Mega Airport RomePublisher: AerosoftReview Author: MrYorkiesWorldSuggested Price: $29.99/images/fsc/wbicons/store-buy-now-button.pngToday's short review is actually quite a long-awaited one for me asI've been dying to get my hands on this fantastic piece of scenery forquite some time. So as with any scenery review, the best place to start is withcompatibility, and I'm happy to say this scenery works great in P3DV4.5. In the provided info it also mentions that it's compatible withFSX, and earlier versions of P3D as well, so you shouldn't have anyissues there. Furthermore, Dynamic Lighting is supported, thanks tothe latest update to the scenery which is currently, at the time ofthis review, version 1.04. /images/reviews/megarome/t/evening_shot_2.jpgUsers of the Mega Airport Rome scenery for FS2004 also have thepossibility to upgrade to the latest version at a discounted price, soI'd definitely check that out if you have an earlier version of thisscenery from Aerosoft. Despite the fact that the airport is actually not as complex asyou'd think, there is a lot of detail in there which makes it a veryenjoyable piece of scenery to use in the simulator. I recently took my first flight into this scenery and posted it onmy YouTube channel. It was a full-flight video from Stockholm to Romewith Scandinavian Airlines flight 1841. The weather on that particularflight was a little cloudy, rainy and also foggy, however I did get tosee my first glimpse of the scenery, and it impressed me quite abit. You could still make out the airport once I got close enough, andthe surrounding areas seemed to have quite a bit of detail in theretoo. There were even reflections from the runway which was a reallynice touch, and the taxiway markings and signage seem to be reallywell designed as well. /images/reviews/megarome/t/birdseye_view_google.jpg /images/reviews/megarome/t/birdseye_view_p3d.jpgI've taken the liberty of including a real-world image of theairport from Google Maps (above) for this review, and if I compare the simversion with that of its real life counterpart, you can see that itdoes actually bear a very close resemblance. From this alone, it'sclear to see that Aerosoft have put a lot of work into fine tuningthings to look as good and as realistic as they can. The textures themselves for both the airport grounds and some ofthe surrounding areas are of 2048x2048 resolution, which is nice, although some of the grassy areas around the grounds do appear to be alittle blurry. However, this wasn't an issue for me and doesn't reallyaffect anything in terms of visuals, unless of course you really careabout these sorts of things. Speaking of surrounding areas, the scenery contains neighboringobjects as well as those included with the airport proper. These helpto make things look and feel a little more realistic, and I thinkAerosoft have paid a lot of attention to detail here so as to try andmake the scenery look as majestic as they can. Another great thing is that the scenery itself is fully compatiblewith all major traffic add-ons, which means that users of Pro ATC Xand Ultimate Traffic Live (such as myself) will not encounter anyissues at all, which is really nice! Now on to the night lighting, and I must say this really does lookgreat. Aerosoft did actually mention on their web site that the nightlighting for LIRF is based upon real-world pilot opinion andpoint-of-view, so you can bet your life that it looks pretty muchauthentic! Again, this kind of detail just helps to add thatadditional level of immersion to the whole experience - something Ireally like. /images/reviews/megarome/t/evening_shot_3.jpgNow on to another area of the review which is highly important, that of frame rates. I'm happy to say that the performance of LIRF (on my reviewsystem), was between 55 and 60 FPS during the day, and dropping tobetween 45 and 60 FPS at night. Not that bad really when you factor inthe detail included, and it's also much better than some othersceneries I have encountered. One thing I would like to point out though is that my system specis rather on the high side. At present I am running an Intel Core i99900K CPU along with 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 1080TI graphicscard. I'm also running P3D V4.5 on a separate dedicated Solid StateDrive to speed things up. When you factor in all of the above, it'seasy to see why my frame rates remained constantly high. With so many different levels of hardware available, your mileageis of course going to vary, so I can only go by what I haveexperienced. So moving on to the system requirements as per the Aerosoft website, we have: Microsoft Flight Simulator X (SP2, Acceleration Pack) or Lockheed Martin Prepar3D V3/V4 Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 (fully updated)3 GHz Dual Core Processor 2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended) 3D Graphics Card with minimal 1024 MB (2 GB recommended) The download size for the scenery weighs in at 480 MB, with thefinal installation being 1 GB in size, which is nice and small. Formyself, I enjoy small downloads and quick installs, as my excitementcan't stand long installation procedures! For this review I have included some cinematic shots during thedaytime, evening and night, just to make sure everything is covered inthis review. These are attached below: /images/reviews/megarome/t/daytime_shot.jpg /images/reviews/megarome/t/evening_shot_1.jpg /images/reviews/megarome/t/dynamic_lighting.jpgTo conclude, I have to say that Aerosoft's Mega Airport Rome been afantastic piece of scenery to explore and I can't wait to do some moreflights from this location! I will be awarding this scenery a rating of 9/10 as it performsgreat, both in the daytime and during the night (even in badweather). The only slightly negative aspect I could find, were theblurry textures in parts, but this may be down to simulator settingsthan anything else. Having referenced the airport against Google Maps, I found it to bea perfect digital replica of the real-world counterpart. The airportis highly immersive, with the surrounding scenery adding to that. Thanks very much for reading! 11. Review: Aerosoft Mega Airport HelsinkiBy Michael Hayward /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222002_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222012_1.jpgIn October 2012, developers A-Flightreleased their Mega Airport Helsinki package published underAerosoft. At the time of release, this was their first mainstreamscenery released for sale for FSX and P3D. In mid-July, I went on a week-long holiday to Finland, flying intoHelsinki Vantaa before taking a train to the city and onwards toLappeenranta. Losing my passport days before flying however meant thatI was stuck in the city and the airport for a few extra days beforemaking my way back to the UK. In the light of my recent trip to Finland, I thought that now wouldbe a perfect opportunity to review this airport, comparing it to thereal world and seeing how true-to-life Mega Airport Helsinki is. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222044_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222119_1.jpgWhat/Where Is It?Mega Airport Helsinki includes Helsinki Airport and some borderingbuildings. Constructed and opening in 1952, it was made for the SummerOlympics that year in order to lessen the traffic flying toHelsinki-Malmi Airport which was struggling to cope with the suddenincrease in traffic. The airport itself is situated in the town of Vantaa, which is 10miles north of Helsinki city center, and only 3 miles west ofTikkurila. It was built on the Mottisuo, a large flat boggy marshlandthat once stretched out for miles north from the capital before beingdeveloped on. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222138_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222150_1.jpgInstallationInstalling the Mega Airport Helsinki scenery was simple, as withany other Aerosoft install. Once you have downloaded the installer, run the program and selectyour chosen simulator. You then input your activation key and theinstaller does the rest. When running the simulator, it's good practice to also check if thescenery has been activated in your scenery library, as on someoccasions it will not do this automatically. Once the airport isadded, you are ready to go. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222238_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222258_1.jpgYou get three documents with this add-on. A 16-page manual inGerman and English explaining the add-on and the features it includes,as well as a 51-page color charts book showing all of the approachesand departures from Vantaa (in-date to when this scenery wasreleased). You also get a tweaking tool that lets you adjust the airportscenery depending on what visuals you want to see within the airportand surrounding areas, as well as texture resolutions depending onyour system. The tweaking tool also lets you toggle winter and summertrees and snowbanks - meaning this does not appear to be automatedwhich is a shame, but fair for the time that this scenery wasreleased. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222316_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222332_1.jpg Structures And FacilitiesThe scenery at Helsinki Airport is absolutely beautiful. Theterminal and hangar buildings look utterly stunning and are topped offwith full 4K textures, bringing them to life. There are two terminals at Helsinki Vantaa - Terminal 1 is used forthe majority of domestic and some smaller/Scandic routes, while mostwill go through the International Terminal 2. Both have been very well recreated by A-Flight and look very goodwhen compared to their real-world counterparts. Textures are in full4K resolution and weathered to give the airport a sense of age when upclose to the building. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222424_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222442_1.jpgBest of all, the terminal interior is also visible! The exteriorwindows are semi-transparent which lets you look inside the departurelounge of the airport! This can be a risky move that not manydevelopers do, mainly due to how hard this can be to optimise, as wellas look good, but this has been very well well and gives you a reallygood sense of depth when parked. Each stand also has a Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS)modelled into them, each being functional as well. This works reallywell in guiding your aircraft to the gate and stopping it on thecenterline at the correct position. Something that I think we also need to give a mention to are thejet bridges. They look phenomenal. The level of detailing on them(including the structures that hold them up) are VERY high in qualityand look almost real. It's something I have never seen a developerfocus so much on, despite (in real-life) being something that directlyinteracts with the aircraft, making them well worth a look - If youown Aerosoft's Airport Enhancement Services add-on (remember that?)these jetways are also functional within FSX at no additionalcost! /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222516_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222534_1.jpgThere is though the odd hiccup where the staircase leads to arandom wall - obviously, something has been missed...whoops! Taxiways And RunwayThe airport layout matches that of the real-world Vantaa airport in2012, when this scenery was first released, and continued to do sountil 2015 when major work started on a new terminal for the airportand the iconic Finnair Arches hangar was sold to Finavia anddemolished. Textures for the taxiways and also runway are highly detailed, andincludes weathering. This provides an aged feel to them, as much ofthis airport was built in the 1970s, with a further runway extensionmade in the early 2000s. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823224001_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823224019_1.jpgThe ground surrounding the terminal has also been detailed withground service vehicles placed around each stand, along with liquidspills and wet patches on the ground. This all combines to give you avery high-quality ground environment to explore. Ground markings are also accurate and positioned in theirreal-world locations. These include runway markers, taxiwaydesignations and holding points in various locations. Airport service roads also snake their way around the airport, including a few roads in Mottisuo and leading to the cargoterminal. While these weren't added to the main airport layout, theydo appear on the satellite imagery that surrounds the airport whichbeing of the quality it is, lets them fit in with the ground scenerywhile still looking in place. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222739_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222825_1.jpgNight EffectsNight lighting in this scenery has also been well recreated in thesimulator. The different lighting types you see on approach as well ason the ground, give you a good overall feeling of nightlife at theairport, and compared to the real thing (my arriving flight landed at11:30 pm local time), I have no complaints. One thing I do like about the lighting, is that A-Flight doesn'toverdo the effects. While most scenery developers will go for massivebright lights all packed close together, A-Flight has instead usednormal sized lights at realistic intervals. All taxiway signs areilluminated and the terminal buildings look fantastic from afar. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222844_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823223857_1.jpgLighting colors and variations are also accurate. Light greenlights mark the taxiways, blue lights mark the taxiway edges and whitelights mark the runway area, with dark green where the runway startsand ends. When on final at night, thanks to the very dark surroundings of theairport, spotting Vantaa is an easy feat, meaning you won't have anyissue in getting your aircraft down at night. Other Structures And The Surrounding AreaThe marshland of Mottisuo sits in the very middle of the airport, and is generally left untouched. While monitored and kept by theairport from disrupting the airport and any services, the bog is stillevident in the space between runways 04L/22R and 04R/22L, where theland is still green and overgrown. This has been 3D modelled byA-Flight to match the real-world scenery, which adds to the level ofdetail that this package provides. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823223825_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823223757_1.jpgWhile we still have the usual flat runways and taxiways (a pitfallof FSX and P3D), the land that surrounds this is complex and looksreally good, giving the airport a new level of depth, which you don'tnormally see in these simulators. To save on frame rates, the further out you are from the mainairport area, the fewer visible polygons there are on buildings andobjects. The delivery trucks near the cargo terminal suffer from thisthe most (big blocks that sit on slightly smaller blocks). From adistance however, this doesn't look bad at all, which most of the timewill be a couple of hundred feet in the air after departure (if youeven notice them at all). /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823223925_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222542_1.jpgThere is a satellite image also placed into the ground of Vantaaairport. This is an extremely high-quality image and brings togetherwhat is a fantastic product. The level of quality goes down to thepatterns in the grass in open areas and also to a number of airportfacilities both airside and landside. Other than the immediate area surrounding the airport and maybe afew forests to the north and southwest, you don't get anything elseaway from Vantaa or Tikkurila itself. Seasonal TexturesSouthern Finland has four much defined seasons, all of which havebeen recreated in this add-on. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823222648_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823224035_1.jpgBeing Finland, we definitely have to cover winter first. Snowtextures have been created and placed all around the airport, including the 3D marshland and airport roof. Unfortunately though, not everything has been given a wintertexture, and this is a drawback to a very good scenery. What good is aFinnish winter if not everything has been snow covered? Fortunately, only a small number of buildings suffer from this issue, but it'senough to be noticed when up close. Trees also suffer from thistexture issue too, but this can be changed thanks to the built-intweaking tool that this add-on comes with. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823224107_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823224139_1.jpgSummer and other seasons, on the other hand, have been verywell-made. They are both bright and vibrant, and really brings to lifewhat Finland is like in the short summer it has. This is very muchseen in Mottisuo where the land changes the most from season toseason. In winter its pure white with lumps of snow on top, and in thesummer, it's green and full of life! Opinion And Closing RemarksOverall, it has been a pleasure to fly in and out of Mega AirportHelsinki. The scenery itself looks fab and if you can get past thewinter textures, A-Flight has done a solid job in recreating HelsinkiVantaa. If you can't however get past those winter textures, then thatunfortunately is a slight letdown on what is otherwise, a fantasticproduct. Winter in Finland is like marmite on toast, whether you likeit or not (sub-zero temperatures anyone?) they go hand in hand. Usingthe tweaker tool does subdue some of the issues, but it's just notquite there yet. /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823224149_1.jpg /images/reviews/megahels/t/20180823224309_1.jpgHaving flown to Vantaa only a few months ago during the summer, Ican look at this scenery and confidently say that the ground scenery, airport layout and everything else has been very well recreated togive you a highly realistic feel to the airport. I must also mention that despite the high levels of detailing ineach part of the airport, this scenery does not kill your frame rates, which shows how well optimised the scenery is. A good balance betweendetailing and optimisation is always appreciated, especially on theFSX platform, which A-Flight have excelled in.
