  1. Hello, Thank you for reading this. Before posting this I did a research but couldn't find anything. As is known, IVAO client named "Altitude" displays aircraft models taken from the "MTL" library. The VATSim client "vPilot" reads the models already installed in the flight simulator and displays those according to various sets of rules. I am interested in making Altitude to read and display the models that are already installed in my sim exactly as vPilot does. If is possible for you to tell me what files to edit/make in Altitude in order for it to read and display the already installed aircraft models in my sim instead of displaying those from the MTL, this would be really helpful. Thanks
  2. /images/notams/notams22/ivao1118.jpgThe long-awaited release of Voice Unicom is here and available forall members of the IVAO Family to enjoy. For the first time on IVAO,pilots can communicate and broadcast their intentions to assist withavoiding in-flight conflict by voice. Voice Unicom is the most anticipated addition to our network. It ispacked with authentic radio effects and behaviour enabling it to be arealistic digital simulation of radio communication. This introduction continues our aspiration to part ways with thehistoric TeamSpeak2 platform and the concept of joining a "channel" tocommunicate, becoming more and more of a distant past. Instead, thisexciting addition uses high-quality audio codecs that are fullyencrypted and accompany the already tried and tested Intercom andVoice ATIS systems on our in-house developed voice servers. When pressing your push-to-talk button, the voice serverdynamically computes the range of your aircraft radio and regulateswhich other aircraft are within range to receive yourtransmission. Within a few milliseconds, it can determine if twostations can communicate with each other using calculations andstandards published by the International Telecommunication Union andthe International Civil Aviation Organization. The ability to simulate the loss of radio signal through the air isone of the brilliant capabilities of Voice Unicom, but that is merelyone of many that has been incorporated. It also considers thecurvature of the earth and the ability that terrain has to distort orblock transmissions. We have stored the topography of every inch ofthe world in our voice servers, and using this data, the server cancalculate the level of distortion the terrain will have. Source
  3. /images/notams/notams22/ivao1007.jpgBy 2023, we plan to implement new systems to bring online aviationto the next level and improve YOUR network experience! Among otherthings, you can expect a fresh voice system, a new forum, a reworkedWebeye and rebuilt web systems. Last year, we conducted over 450+ online events together withYOU. 4. /images/notams/notams22/ivao0725.jpgMultiplayer Traffic Library, MTL for short, is an AI trafficlibrary for users on IVAO to see each other while flying. MTL Libraryis maintained by IVAO DevOps MTL Team with help of various paintersand Model Authors. Last year we welcomed the next generation of our famous MultiplayerTraffic Library (MTL) to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, X andLockheed Martin’s Prepar3D. Following the release of this excitingenhancement for users of those platforms, we saw an ever-increasingrequest to bring this next generation to the latest Microsoft FlightSimulator. Today we are pleased to announce that those wishes are becomingtrue. Thanks to hundreds of hours put in by our MTL Designer Team wewelcome the introduction of a truly dedicated Multiplayer TrafficLibrary for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Whether you spend time in thecockpit on IVAO as a commercial airline pilot, defy gravity as ahelicopter pilot or feel the need for speed in a fighter jet, we areenhancing the experience for everyone. We are introducing tonnes of new features, from the very obvious tothe finest of details. So here are just some of the things you canexpect to see: Custom light mapping; the illumination of the cabin at night Handcrafted Military AI aircraft - Special Operations being a major element of IVAO we have implemented several aircraft to complement that aspect of the network, with added sound effects and afterburners (where applicable), these are:Airbus A400M AtlasCASA C-101 AviojetCASA/IPTN CN-235Dassault Mirage 2000Eurofighter TyphoonLockheed Martin F-35 Lightning IILockheed C-130 HerculesLockheed F-117 NighthawkLockheed SR-71 BlackbirdMcDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier IINorthrop Grumman B-2 SpiritNorthrop F-5Northrop T-38 TalonRockwell B-1 LancerHelicopters - Get your hover on and say goodbye to those floating A320s as we introduce the first helicopter MTL in the form of the Airbus Helicopters H135.Engine exhaust - New exhaust effects from both turbine APUs and power plants.Contrails - See the vapour left behind by any turbine or jet-engined aircraft that is operating above FL290.Lighting environment - Say goodbye to the generic lighting on every aircraft and say hello to custom lighting for each aircraft offering a mixture of LED/ halogen lighting, single and double strobes and the distortion of light depth in foggy conditions.Double the texture resolution - Introducing 2k resolution liveries, double the size of previous MTL liveries, for a clearer and more appealing visual experience with the added advantage of PBR (physically based rendering) support to reflect the feel of real-world materials.Multiple sound packs - It is not just a single generic sound pack anymore, we have introduced multiple sound packs for piston, turbine, jet and helicopters to help assist in the immersion of multiple airframe types.Animations - More than ever before. You will now be able to see the transition of gears, the turning of tyres, flaps, slats and spoilers.Dressed for the occasion - Aircraft will now be displayed with the appropriately dressed crew; A flight suit for military aircraft, an airline uniform for commercial flights and a casual outfit for leisurely VFR aircraft. We hope that all of these fantastic new features will truly enhanceyour experience on IVAO using Microsoft Flight Simulator. 5. /images/notams/notams22/visk0113.jpgDear IVAO Family, For some time it has been the Network's wish to be able to provideyou with transparent and regular updates of our plans for, and theprogression, of IVAO's infrastructure and software/websystems. Following a restructure of the Development OperationsDepartment we were able to appoint new Directors and TeamManagers. Yannick and Frederico have assumed the positions of Directorand Assistant Director respectively. The main focus of their first twoweeks was to meet with the new Team Managers and finalise a roadmapfor our infrastructure and software/web systems, changing thelandscape in around 12 months. The aim is to provide you with updates every 3 months, on what toexpect to be released during that period and an update on what hashappened since the previous quarter. So, without further ado, heregoes… What is planned for Q1 of 2022?World ServersIt is no hidden fact that our current SHARD servers do not have thecapability to withstand a tremendous amount of connections toIVAO. December of last year saw a deficiency during the Crowded Skiesevent that meant we were unable to achieve the figures we hadwished. The reasoning behind this issue is that IVAO has no ownershipto develop the current source code of the SHARD servers. Our dedicatedDevelopers have now created our own servers, called ‘World Servers’,that will enable better stability, more connections and lay thefoundations to be able to implement more enhanced features in thefuture. The World Server will be cross compatible on release with thelatest versions of IvAc, IvAp, Altitude and Aurora but theintroduction of new features, later in the year, will see support forIvAc and IvAp versions closed at a later date. The project is underAlpha testing at the moment and is due for release, to all members, bythe end of March. Aurora for WindowsAurora was responsible for 85% of ATC connections in December 2021,being the most popular of the ATC clients compatible with IVAO. Wewill shortly be releasing our ALPHA version, currently used by IVAOStaff, as the latest available BETA to all members after which we willnot be implementing any new features to Aurora for Windows, insteadfocusing on stabilizing this latest BETA to remove any existing bugsand eradicate crashes. Anyone who does have an issue with Aurora forWindows should contact our friendly User Support Team by speakingone-on-one with them on the Family Discord, posting in the forum or byemailing devops@ivao.aero where a member of the team will gladlyassist. Aurora for Mac/LinuxIt goes without saying that Aurora for Linux and Mac has been acalling for some time now, we are pleased to advise that Aurora forMac/Linux is being actively developed to achieve the same key aspectsof Aurora for Windows. The project is under development and expectedfor a network BETA release by August. Voice ATISA new feature for IVAO, the Network will see the introduction ofVoice ATIS continue its development. Voice ATIS will enable Pilots tobe able to get the latest weather, runway and other ATIS informationfor their departure and arrival airports. Voice ATIS will only becompatible with IVAO’s latest offering of software, meaning it willonly be received by Pilots using Altitude and only transmitted byControllers who are using Aurora. The project is under development andexpected for a network release by June. What is left to come for the rest of 2022?IVAO has much more to offer to it’s Family in 2022. Deemed “theyear of change†by the Senior Leadership Team, we aim to see thedeparture of TeamSpeak 2 forever and the smooth landing of our newvoice systems including Voice UNICOM. We hope to provide you withfurther updates in April, July and October to discuss progression anddiscuss the next steps. Source

  8. /images/notams/notams21/ivao0509.jpgIVAO gets a facelift, first walk towards a new web infrastructure. IVAO is very excited to release a facelift of IVAO Brand, and newTracker, Webeye and Login system. Our last branding update was back in 2013, however, a lot hashappened ever since. Particularly, 2019 and 2020 have constitutedstepping stone years for IVAO: We have released our new Clients:Aurora, Altitude and Artifice in BETA, a new Voice Module, a newweb-based Flight Plan Tool, ensured our Pilot Client was compatiblewith Microsoft Flight Simulator on day zero of its release with ourown MTL library, launched Webeye 3.0, a new Documentation Library andmuch more. Our branding update showcases a rejuvenation of IVAO software, andreinforces our mission as an Organisation, that is committed tocontinuously innovating and offering a leading edge experience. The new branding will bring forth a more uniform brand across theboard. We’ve refreshed the entire brand, and remained consistent toour original principles and philosophy, honouring our past. WithinIVAO, Our Divisions establish the connection with our members acrossthe globe. This is the primary reason we have focused on re-designinga clear and distinctive image for our Divisions, whilst maintainingour core identity, and feeling across the board. In July 2020, we announced that we planned on implementingsignificant progress on building our new Web infrastructure. It wastherefore a key dependency to deploy the new branding that is inconjunction, with our new Web infrastructure. For that, we haveestablished this important date to have members experience a taste ofthis new major project, and therefore launch a completely new IVAOTracker and Login system, showcasing our new branding. Our new generation of IVAO Tracker, a flagship tool of IVAO thatprovides members with a detailed tracking of their ATC, Flight andObserver connections to the IVAO Network- is the first tool, in theseries, that we will be launching as part of IVAO’s new Web 2.0infrastructure. This system will be using our new generation trackingserver system with a 15-second refresh rate, and will provideadditional efficiency and stability to our servers. Source Partnership Program
  9. Hey everyone. When i'm taxiing, i'm using FSrealWX 3.0 and when I'm taxiing, suddenly there are winds clocking at more than 50 knots, making my plane go bananas. but when I'm at cruising altitude, say FL380, when there is supposed to have winds at that speed (maybe) it's says "winds calm", no speed at all. makes cruising not interesting. Sometimes I'm using IVAO's weather updates, other times FSrealWX and rarely FSXWX. Any clues? btw, on weather sceneries like "major thunderstorm", upper winds do exist. Thanks in advance!
  10. /images/notams/notams21/ivao0112.jpgIVAO is proud to announce the release of a brand-new Datalinkmodule for its ATC Client: Aurora, a stepping stone in the Air TrafficControl experience for our members. After having released its new ATC Client: Aurora in December 2019in BETA phase, IVAO did not cease to regularly update the client, allowing for more realism and immersive experience. Previous featureupdates included web-based Flight Plan filing, Voice Module, SELCAL,and others. Aurora's latest update will now include another new highlyrealistic and requested feature: Datalink. The Datalink feature will seamlessly integrate with the HoppieACARS system, bringing excellent news for our members using Hoppieenabled aircraft, such as FSLabs’ A3xx series of aircraft. Paving theway for an even more realistic experience through theirMCDU/ACARS. The Hoppie integration also constitutes excellent news toour third-party developers who can directly link their own Datalinksoftware to IVAO’s software ecosystem. Our members who are not using a Hoppie-compatible third-party ACARSsystem will still be able to receive Datalink messages from IVAO’sconnected ATC stations through the ATC’s primary active frequency. The new Datalink system consists of two parts: The first part is the Telex, which is a simple messaging systemthat can be used for controller/pilot and pilot/pilotcommunication. Telex is not used as an alternative to voicecommunication. The second part is the CPDLC (Controller Pilot Data LinkCommunications) is a Controller/pilot communication system used fornon urgent communication, that is an alternative to voicecommunication. A second important feature included with this update is VerticalProfiles. This is also a highly realistic INSET on our ATC client thatwill enable Controllers to have a transversal view of the activesector, as a means to visualise the vertical separation betweentraffic. As our software is still in the BETA phase, we continue to heavilydepend on our member feedback on bugs and feature requests to ensureour software is more stable and realistic. 11. /images/notams/notams20/ivao1206.jpgIVAO is very proud to announce that, in collaboration with Zibomod,we have a great update in our software in which we have created aSELCAL integration! We also have made a special video for thisupdate. For more information visitwww.ivao.aero About SELCALIn international aviation, SELCAL or SelCal is a selective-callingradio system that can alert an aircraft's crew that a ground radiostation wishes to communicate with the aircraft. SELCAL uses aground-based encoder and radio transmitter to broadcast an audiosignal that is picked up by a decoder and radio receiver on anaircraft. The use of SELCAL allows an aircraft crew to be notified ofincoming communications even when the aircraft's radio has beenmuted. Thus, crewmembers need not devote their attention to continuousradio listening.

  13. /images/notams/notams20/ivao0926.jpgIVAO is proud and delighted to present the flight simulationcommunity with WebEye 3.0! WebEye has always been a flagship tool for IVAO presenting memberswith a real-time visualisation of connected Pilots and Controllers allover the virtual IVAN world. Each with unique insights into theirroute, ATIS, VHF Frequency and lots more. Webeye was even oncerecognized by the famous FlightRadar24. This time, IVAO has prepared a surprise with a new major update ofWebEye that will include many new features, all covered in thisarticle. This update will essentially refactor the old WebEye fromscratch. It will retain all functions of its predecessor but with someamazing brand new features to WebEye. We believe that this update will take the member experience to thenext level and usher in a new age of flight simulation excellence. Ournew and updated database allows for a more detailed and richer outlookthat is easier to maintain and update. Now users can also selectmultiple aircraft and use the bin icon to clear theirselection. Follow Me cars, Fighter jets, and Military aircraft willnow be identified using their own icons, adding more intricacy toWebEye. To make the experience of flight simulation even more realistic andimmersive, we have added the option to choose from various differentversions of maps, activated the highly anticipated weather radar andadded dark mode. We do not plan on halting the progress any time soon. Excitingtimes lie ahead for the whole IVAO Family as our development team hasalready started to work on the next series of updates where we will beintegrating shapes TWR, NOTAMs and special areas into theplatform. 14. /images/notams/notams20/ivao0823.jpgAfter our teaser video, we released an article announcing that weare conducting the last stage of finalising and testing theintegration of our voice module with our clients. We are proud to inform you that we will release new versions ofboth IVAO Pilot Client: Altitude and IVAO ATC Client: Aurora with abrand-new voice integration on September 5th, 2020. Save the date! This release is of extreme importance as it will eliminate the needfor the standalone TeamSpeak 2 client, hence resolving severalcompatibility issues for our members. Most important, it pumps a superdose of realism into the IVAO Experience. The new IVAO Pilot Client: Altitude will come with built-in voicevolume controls on the interface, one for each COM. Our pilots willalso have access to additional sound settings that will allow them toselect their preferred audio input and output hardware and set theirPTT key. And evidently, we have added a special audio VHF effect(simulating real VHF Transmitters), such as realistic audio bandwidthand equalization, blocking of reception when current transmission isbroadcasting, push-to-talk clicks (end of transmission sound) andadditional background static noise. The new ATC Client: Aurora will also come with its own magic. Wehave already mentioned in a previous article that Aurora is beingdeveloped with the help of real-life ATC professionals, and it is ourgoal to make IVAO ATC Client the most realistic ATC Client in theentire flight simulation community. In fact, the integrated voice willbe working depending on ATC receivers, as we took samples and feedbackfrom real ATCs to create what we have now. This update of Aurora will also come with a highly requestedfeature called Ground Radar or also known as Map Rotation. Currently, all our sector files are oriented north. This ground radar featurewill allow members to rotate their map for their use. This will happen through a seamless transition, meaning that theIVAO Network will not experience any downtime. Pilots will have todownload the latest version of Altitude. ATC will have to uninstalltheir old client and download the new one. This update will not halt the compatibility of our legacysoftware. Our members who prefer to continue using IvAc and IvAp willstill be able to do so. Save the date, Saturday September 5th, 2020. We thank you all for all your support and positive encouragementduring our on-going developments. IVAO will always remain an organisation that is fully committed topromising leading-edge software to its Community, and working at fullcapacity to offer the most sophisticated, realistic and convivialflight and ATC simulation experience. 17. /images/notams/notams19/ivao1215/ivao1215.jpgIVAO has been working at full thrust to craft its softwareand release it to the Community before the end of this year. Finally,IVAO is thrilled to announce that its new software will be availableto the public in BETA testing. Keynote streams will be broadcast for the ATC Client on Saturday,21st December 2019 at 1830z, and for the Pilot Client and Connector onSunday, 22nd December 2019 at 1830z. Both streams will be hosted onIVAO's YouTube Channel, and will have one of IVAO DevOps membersshowcasing a keynote demonstration of the software. Each software will be available for download to IVAO members assoon its stream ends. The host of the stream will provide the downloadlinks and present a quick guide on how to start. Members who cannotmake it at the time of the steam will still be able to replay itanytime later. "This has simply been an outstanding display of teamwork, cooperation, dedication, sacrifice, and the combination of immenseskills and talent to achieve" says Denton Young, on behalf of IVAOExecutive Council. "What stands before us now, is a road that has beenpaved for the future. Thank you, and congratulations team!". The first release will be the one of IVAO ATC Client: Aurora. Forthe past four months, while IVAO software developers have been workinghard on the coding part, Alpha-testing and dataprep teams have alsobeen hard-pushing their preparation: Divisions from all over the worldhave been diligently working on preparing sector files for their areasas well as helping developers with software bug-tracking. Manydivisions have gotten their sectors fully ready, and others willfollow soon. In fact, many of the divisional staff members leading sectorpreparation in divisions are actual real-life controllers. Theyensured that sectors showcase a highly realistic experience thatmatches the real sectors in their workplace. Some of them shared withus the following comparisons: /images/notams/notams19/ivao1215/ivao-1.jpgBoth the ATC Client software and all sector files are stored onIVAO's servers. Members will not have to worry about updating theirsoftware or sector AIRACs as everything will be done automaticallyupon the launch of the Client. Below is a selection of some of themany sector files that have been uploaded by the divisions and arefully ready for use: /images/notams/notams19/ivao1215/ivao-2.jpgThe second release will be of IVAO Pilot Client: Altitude. Severalupgrades have taken place since our last communication with theCommunity. Firstly, the Pilot Client is now a standalone interfacethat runs independently from the simulator (much needed for ethernetconnection from another computer). Also, we have added several newfeatures to facilitate communication on-board. For example, pilots cannow use the built-in Auto UNICOM tool and they can enable dual textreception (RX) on two different frequencies. We have implemented anenhanced Datalink ATIS in order to manage ATIS information on aseparate window. We have successfully implemented thehighly-anticipated cockpit sharing feature, and the Pilot Client isnow 64-bit-compatible (for Prepar3DA®) as well as 4k-screencompatible. Lastly is the BETA release of IVAO Connector: Artifice (previouslyknown as IvAi). This software allows air traffic controllers to enjoya realistic tower view using their flight simulator whencontrolling. This BETA release is crucial to IVAO as it will allow us to expandthe testing of the software to thousands of our members. While thesoftware has shown stability during alpha testing, it is normal thatsome members will come across some bugs that might cause disturbances, including software crashes. This constitutes an opportunity formembers to contribute to the development process by reporting bugs andcrashes on the new software support boards visible soon on IVAO'sCommunity Forum. IVAO Members are also able to use the new forum boards to suggestnew features and provide developers with feedback. A dedicated team ofDevOps staff will be in charge of monitoring the Forum boards, collecting feedback and providing user support. This is will allowIVAO developers to build better software and make decisions that meetand exceed members' expectations. "IVAO signifies a strong sense of community and fellowship aboveeverything" affirms Elyas Herrero, President of IVAO VzW. "The step weare going to be taking is a wonderful demonstration of that. We allneed to be ready for this new era of flight simulation. No one canmiss it." he added. We will leave you with more screen shots of the Pilot Client:Altitude from our alpha testers Alp, Erwan and Roberto. We will seeyou next weekend, Saturday 21st Dec and Sunday 22nd Dec at 1830z onIVAO's YouTube Channel. Mark your calendars! Source
  18. /images/notams/notams19/ivao1013.jpgAs promised, we are following up with fresh new insights straightfrom our DevOps Team. In our previous release, we told you about ourNew Pilot Client and our new ATC Client. The feedback has been huge!We are super delighted that you guys liked the progress we have madeso far. You will recall from our previous post, we have shared some screenshots of our new Flight Plan Tool. Our New Pilot Client is beingdesigned in a way that Flight Plan Management will occur on aweb-based platform, instead of inside the pilot client, as in thecurrent Client IVAP. This feature will bring many benefits. For instance, you will beable to save, access and use your previously-submitted flightplans. You will also be able to maintain your own aircraft hangar, andsubmit your flight plan without limit of characters, a highlyrequested feature. We have also added a section called "Upcoming Flight Plans", aspilots will be able to file their flight plans in advance. The sectionwill show you the available flight plans as follows: The flight plan highlighted with grey background are old non active flight plan. The flight plan highlighted with green background are current active flight plan. The flight plan with white background are future flight plan and currently not active (i.e. not yet filed).Source

  20. /images/notams/notams19/ivao0901.jpgIVAO members and all the flight simulation community have beenasking about what new software is cooking in IVAO's kitchen. In fact, we have not only one new software, we have two! Backing onIVAO's IT Strategic Directives that were published last year, theobsession of all IVAO developers became how to upgrade the entire IVAOExperience; on both ATC and Pilot ends. For starters, let us first understand how the IVAO Networkworks: We have four main pillars: ATC Client (Known as IVAC: the software that Air TrafficControllers use)Pilot Client (Known as IVAP: the software used by Pilots toconnect their simulators to IVAO Network)Network (Known as FSD: This is the magician that brings everyonetogether in one connected place)Servers (It is where all our tools and systems operate, so thatour members can interact with IVAO, such as IVAO HQ and Division websites, Division web site, Webeye, Voice, etc.)The ATC and Pilot Clients, as well as our FSD Network servers havebeen in use ever since IVAO infrastructure was constructed. IVAO embraces the necessity that every software needs continuousdevelopment, in order to keep its attractiveness and allow integrationfor future operating systems and flight simulation platforms. However, the current FSD, IVAP and IVAC are not copyrighted byIVAO, meaning that IVAO does not have access to the source code or anytechnical specification documentation. This has hindered IVAO'sability to make any significant updates to its software. Thankfully, that has come to an end with IVAO's new IT strategy. In addition to this, our current IT software developers in DEVOPShave dealt and continue to deal with major challenges on a dailybasis. These include tremendous amounts of research because of missing(technical) documentation or specifications. This research has beencombined with development to achieve the current progression in allthree IT software projects. Our initial software project, was the development of our newNetwork - SHARD servers. This was a key step, as it provided thefoundation and platform for the development of the succeeding ITsoftware projects. Our second software project, is the new Pilot Client: We haveprogressed to ALPHA testing phase in a closed group of seniorstaff. The Pilot Client has been extremely complicated andchallenging, as the developers and testers are required to deal withmany scenarios and configurations. These include multiple instances offlight simulator, operating system platforms, as well as seamlessintegration of other components such as MTL, CSL, etc. We actuallyhave two developers that highly committed to this challengingproject. We are presently testing the client on a daily basis, reporting bugs, and both our developers and support staff are workingaround the clock to address these bugs and issues. We are planning to open the beta testing phase in the near future. Source

  25. Introduction To IVAO Introduction to the IVAO Network IVAO - International Virtual Aviation Organization - is an Internet community of Flight Simulation enthusiasts from all over the world who meet on-line to practice their common hobby collectively. The IVAO network was founded in December 1998 and has more then 42,000 users worldwide at this moment. The membership of IVAO and the use of all network facilities are free of charge. Everyone who is interested in participating in the on-line simulation either as a virtual pilot or as a virtual air traffic controller is more then welcome to join. Un-acquaintance with flying on-line in a multi-user environment does not have to be an obstruction because for both pilots and ATC there are courses and beginner session organized on a regular basis. What exactly is this: Flying on-line with IVAO? During flying on-line, a large group of people participate as a pilot. They use a flight simulation program (usually Microsoft Flight Simulator) and "IvAp" (IVAO Virtual Pilot Client) a special program developed by the software department of IVAO and available to download for free. After the installation of "IvAp" the pilots finds a new menu called "IVAO" in flight simulator. With this menu-item they can then start the program with one push of a button. By means of "IvAp" the pilot gets connected to a multi-user on-line simulation through the servers of IVAO. Now he sees the aircraft of the other participants "live" in his screen, no matter if they are stationary or moving. At the same time he can be seen "live" by other pilots, Air Traffic Controllers see him in their radar screens now. If desired, through "IvAp" the real world weather can be adjusted in Flight Simulator automatically in real time. To make the simulation complete, and as real as possible, only voice-communication is missing.. To accomplish this the "Teamspeak" program is used, this program is also available for free. In the left-upper corner of the screen: The IvAp-interface - On the right another participant can be seen. A second group of people is simulation Air Traffic Control (ATC). They use the program "IvAc" (IVAO virtual ATC client), also developed by the software department of IVAO. This advanced program is released in 2004 and is based on the real radar systems as in use in by Eurocontrol and Amsterdam Radar. It goes without saying that this program is also available free of charge on the IVAO website. During the on-line simulation both pilots and ATC maintain the procedures and communications as used in reality. Both parties have access to all needed aeronautical information, descriptions of "real-life" procedures and instruction materials through the IVAO websites. Partial IvAc Radarscreen It's self-evident that not everybody is immediately capable to join the simulation at the highest level. This is understandable and certainly no objection. IVAO organizes courses and training sessions for users of all levels. Our largest group of pilots worked their way up to an average level. This way they are capable to make a balanced flight plan and to follow up the instructions of the ATC trouble-free after a short time. Others are completely fascinated by this hobby and by sifting out all available information reach an almost professional level in the end. The threshold to start flying or controlling is however kept as low as possible. Beginners are more then welcome at IVAO and many IVAO divisions organize special "beginners" sessions on a regular basis. Participants, who have worked themselves through the first steps and now, are able to join the simulation independently, find the IVAO network available day and night. There are always people on-line somewhere in the virtual world and there are always pilots in the air. In Europe for instance, between 19:00 and 23:00 hours local time, there are always between 400 and 600 people participating. In IVAO, "Events" are organized on a regular basis, where arrangements are made between certain divisions about special flights and ATC. In the IVAO forums these events are advertised among the users, this way everybody knows that on these evenings an extra amount of people will join the simulation. In a multi-user environment it is attractive when a lot of people are participating, there will be a lot of traffic which will make the experience "as real as it gets". On December 14, 2004, IVAO had the biggest event ever organized, called "Crowded Skies". That day there was a record breaking number of 1112 users simultaneously on-line. Partial Screen during the "Crowded Skies" event Every year a "world tour" is organized on IVAO. During these tours the whole world is covered by a number of predefined stages. This way traffic is generated in places where there normally is hardly any. Also pilots visit airports they never would otherwise. These world tours are very popular and they are flown by thousands of our pilots. Also fans of "Special Operations" like search and rescue flights, police operations, VIP escorts and of course military flights, are well served by IVAO. For them extended course material and information is available as well. The "SO Department" organizes "SO Events" on a regular basis. Several pilots are members of a VA (virtual airline). For them a new VA system has been developed recently. By means of this system pilots can submit their reports (PIREPS) to their VA. The VA can use all available saved flight-information of the flight, check the flight-times and have the progress of the flight printed out on a chart. The system does all the "bookkeeping" concerning pilot-hours, times, used fuel and mileage for the VA. Screenshot of the IVAO VA-system Of course there is a lot more to tell about IVAO, but is might be more fun to discover this yourself. We, the users of the IVAO network, have gained a fascinating hobby where many of us spend a fair amount of hours and have a good time. Hopefully this story has made you curious; perhaps you even are interested to try it yourself. Don’t hesitate then, but visit our website. You can joint immediately for free and start using all facilities instantly. Did you join us, but you do not feel confident yet to start, visit our forums and feel free to ask whatever you like to know about this fascinating hobby. We hope to see you soon on-line at the IVAO network.
