What does AVIONICS mean?

Avionics is a contraction of Aviation Electronics, and is a collective term which includes navigation and communication radios, GPS, DME, transponder, audio switching panel, moving map displays, even the electronic ("glass") version of engine and flight instruments; in short, almost anything in an aircraft that we would think of as being "electronic". It doesn't, however, normally include such things as electronic ignition or magnetos.
