PPL is an abbreviation many folks use to mean the Private Pilot's License. Requirements for this vary from country to country, but in the U.S. 40 hours of flying time is the minimum (most people take quite a bit more). There are also FAA prescribed requirements for night flying, cross country, dual instruction, etc.
