Default About the "active runways" at the airport

I'd like to ask what "active runway" means?
And is it possible for me to set which runway to use for takeoff and landing when creating a flight (but I'd like to start at the gates)? It is because sometimes the computer set the runways for me which are never used in the same way in real situation - e.g. in Hong Kong International Airport, the runway used for landing is 25R/07L. However, the computer sometimes set another runway, i.e. 25L/07R for landing, which almost never occur in real situation.

    Thank you!

Active runway simply means the runway being used that day for take off and landing. When there are more than one runway IE Heathrow has many runways criss crossing the airfield, the active runway is the one being used that day out of the various ones available.

If you are building a flight and select your departing airport, you can click the down arrow next to active runway, then arrow down to the gates available within fs2002.

I have read here that using the weather dialog to change wind direction and speed will cause the active runway to change appropriately. In calm conditions my local airports seem to default to the lowest number, but this conflicts with noise abatement procedures that FS2K2 does not seem to know about.

Runways are set to the wind direction and fs will always choose the longest runway. bob L
