Default Cutting Screenshots Down to Size

I'd really appreciate some help here. I'm looking for a simple program that will allow me to cut out some of the 'bulk' in my screenshots and make them the right file size for posting here. Can anyone recommend a program for doing just that? I've already got one for resizing the shot to 700x525, but it only chopped the size to 1 MB, still far too large for uploading. My requirements are that it must be easy to use because I know next to nothing about editing digital images and it must be freeware. I refuse to pay for PaintShop Pro. It's just too expensive and has too many features beyond my basic needs. Thanks in advance.

Did you know that Paintshop Pro comes with FREE 30 day trial? Might wanna check that out...At least you get to use it for 30 days! Also, make sure you save the file as a JPEG. It doesn't sounds like your doing that, considering a 700 X 525 JPEG image should NEVER be that big. It sounds like its formatted in .bmp right now.

    Hey I started posting yesterday..
I post using the Alt-PrintScreen way..
u press alt-printscreen during the game and then u paste it in paint
then u save it as a bmp, just temporarily. after you taken all your shots that u wanted u close fs2002, and look at the pics, you wil notice they are probably too big in file size (2MB+) and also in resolution. I use ReaJpeg (available on www.download.com) to automatically resize the resolution, convert it to jpg, and lower the filesize to about 70kb per pic without harming the quality of the pic. All my screenshots are taken in 1024by768 resolution, which is wayyyy too big, check out a working example, you decide for yourself if any quality is lost?

Check it out these are the only ones ive done so far, i dont find any image distortion i find it a great utility:

Nice screenshots indeed, but there are some mistakes you make with it!

If you hit "ALT" before printscrn you will notice you got the menu in the top of the screen. Because of the brightness and sharpness of that menu its making your screenshots very large in sizes (MB's).

If you dont use any programs like fsscreen you should do the next thing!

Hit printscrn, then hit alt+tab and open Paint :-lol. Then add it and safe it as JPG, not as BMP. I hope your Paint has JPG support, because mine does!

If you try programs like paint shop pro or photoshop im sure you will get the trick. Btw, the best way to make screenshots you can find at the top of the page!
it sais "how to capture and post screenshots To this forum"

    good luck

    cheers
