Default Blue Sky not True Sky ... pics (I hope :-)

Whats wroung with the sky I keep asking myself? Then leafing through some of my Real world pickies taken in the Seneca and Citation It stands out......
The higher level Sky colour is wroung.

Anyone up to changing it? :-)

LAST EDITED ON Jan-03-02 AT 04:40PM (EDT)[p]I think the only problem would be it would also change the color closer to the ground. I think it's a trade-off betwen high altitude which is usually a darker and richer color, and low altitude which tends to be a lighter blue.

PS; Did you have a filter on your lens when those shots were taken? That will obviously change the color.

I think this observation is a world first Pete. wink!
I've never seen that mentioned before in years on the forums.
In Sept I was flying in 757's up & down the states & I just
checked my slides. You are dead right.
Great shots! Looks like they're through an open window.
No polarising filter?
(I bet someone will now post a sim shot showing a deep blue
upper sky). I'm not hopeful programmers can do it though.

The Citation shot was up around 37000 feet, the Seneca around the 17000 foot mark.

The lighter blue in the sim shot is more like around ground level and sub 10000 feet or lower depending on weather type.

I have around 1000 shots so these arent selective.
I have none with the higher sky (daytime)anything like FS2002

No filters were used and the shot colours are fairly representative :-)

Surely some genius can do something about it? Now I know why Fly! skies feel more real

My only response would be, some would think it's too dark if it were represented as your shots show.

Yes there is a flight sim that does simulate darker skies with higher altitudes its FUIII. If fact you can even go into space. But as you do climb, i think every 5 thousand feet or so the sky gets a darker blue. Still one of my favortie sims.

I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of the color of the Sky at altitude. I routinely see it at high altitudes.
My point is this;
MS chose a color that was representative of the color nearer the surface (a lighter blue - pretty much the same color I'm seeing now as I look out the window here in Denver). They could have made it darker I'm sure. I'm also sure if someone figures out how to make it darker, they will. If so that's fantastic, as I'm a big fan of customization to your own personal preferences. However, had MS made it darker and representative of a higher altitude color, some would complain that it's too dark. I'm not saying I would, but there are those who would for sure.
Now, I'd love it if FS2002 had the ability to change the color depending on altitude, but it doesn't. I'm happy with the overall color of the Sky as it is currently implemented. That's my personal preference. If a future version of FS has a gradual color change the higher you go, very cool. For now it doesn't, and we have to either live with it, and/or modify it to our own liking (if possible).
