Default Real photos @ KMSP

LAST EDITED ON Aug-13-02 AT 00:26AM (EDT)[p]Here's a mixture of photos I took about a month ago, as well as a few recent ones... (Not quite up to Jeff's quality...I need more MP's!!!) I shrunk them down from 1600x1200, so they might look a bit blurry and crummy...oh well. (Jeff....if you see this, how can I compress them without making them blurier?)

Finally, a few days ago, I went out to MSP and awaited the 3-3:30pm 747 arrivals/deps...I caught our NWA 747 taxiing to rwy 12R, while this massive Asiana Cargo 747-400F (NEW!) taxiied to the cargo terminals. (Sorry about the crappy slant...I was too excited to stabilize this!)

Hope everyone enjoyed those......

p.s. Jeff...can you give me some photo tips for image quality.
I have an Olympus 2.1 MP digi cam, w/ 10x optical zoom, (I never touch the digital zoom).

Thanks!

Hi Ryan -

Great shots!

I believe you were referring to Jeff M. (jwckmiller), since I think he has that same camera, so I'll leave any "tips" for him.

However, with regard to the "slant", if you have any photo manipulation software, you can rotate the picture (and crop) back into alignment. Like this: (I also played with it to increase the sharpness and balance the colors a tad)

Ryan,
I think the shots are great. I think you may have shot those at full zoom? If so, the slight blur may be from camera movement. You must hold the camera as still as possible with a long lens. I agree with Jeff, use your software to straighten, remove any jpeg noise, clone out any distractions, and use a touch of unsharp mask to sharpen the image.

Here, I removed the nasty light poles, both infront, and behind. Corrected the color balance, and sharpened a touch. Most, but not all photos can benefit from some post processing. Just do it one step at a time, and use the lowest compression amount that you can.

Hope that helps.

Ryan, awesome shots. Do you live near MSP? I live in Eden Prairie. Great pictures though.

Wow nice edit on the light posts Jeff!

Default Another Example

That light pole in front of the NW747 is a great example of the need to think composition before snapping the picture. Although in today's day it is much easier to manipulate/correct photos with the use of software, you can see that there is no way to really get those windows to look just right.

The ones in back are easier to remove, but sometimes you can save yourself a look of time by looking around your subject before snapping the picture. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that. :-)

Here is an example of removing the crud in the background...:-) Also note that you only want to make these changes once, as with any manipulation, the more you do it the more noise creeps in (note the additional jaggies in the second picture because it was resized twice, rather than once like the first).
