Hello mates,
Here are pics of another great display team performing at the Royal International Air
Tattoo - The Patrouille Suisse from Switzerland. I have seen them at many airshows
in whole Europe and they always amaze me...
A few facts about the Swiss AF demonstration squadron:
The Patrouille Suisse has been the official aerobic team of the Swiss Air Force
since its formation in 1964. In the beginning the team consisted of four Hawker
Hunter Mk 58. In 1970, a fifth airplane joined the formation and in 1978 the
number of airplanes grew up to six, so that flight programs with two solo pilots
became possible. In 1997, the last Hunter Mk 58 has been exempted from military
service and so the Patrouille Suisse had to look after a new plane.
They found it with the Northrop F-5E Tiger II. Their mission consists in presenting
the performances, precision and engagement preparation of the Swiss Air Force.
All the members of the Patrouille Suisse are professional military pilots or
specialised officers from the Surveillance wing and train together during the airshow
season only.
Northrop F-5E Tiger II facts:
Wing span: 8,12 m.
Length: 14,68 m.
Height: 4,06 m.
Max. speed: Mach 1.65 (1768 km/h, 1098 mph.)
Empty weight: 9,685 lbs.(4393 kg.)
Max. weight: 24,665 lbs.(11188 kg.)
Powerplant: two General Electric J85-GE-21 afterburning turbofans
Thrust: 5,000 lbs.(11022 kg.) (thrust each, with afterburner)
Well, here are my photos. They show the display of the Patrouille Suisse on Sunday 21st
