Lockups and black screens - can somebody help?

I just got FS2002 and I absolutely love it. I'm a bit frustrated however at the lockups and blackscreens that seem to occur randomly, and was wondering if anybody out there might be able to help me.

I have an AMD 900MHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a 40 GB disk and a geForce 2 MX400 with 64MB of video RAM, running Win 98SE. I suspect a problem with the geForce 2 and this being my first time on the site, was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problems and if a fix is known.

By the way, the drivers for the geForce 2 card are version 4.13.01.2185, Sept 19, 2001.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What other components are part of your computer? What are the IRQs set on, any conflicts, are sound and graphics cards sharing IRQs?

I have lockups also. Same graphics card, AMD Athlon XP 1800, same RAM, Windows XP Pro. I was thinking the problem was with Windows XP, but if you have it also, maybe it's not the Windows. This is pissing me off.

It's usually after I'm in fs2002 for a while. Never at fs startup, but anytime within 10mins - 40mins. At the onset, I usually see a streaked display if I try to look out the side window. I can still see normally out the front, and then after a little while (usually within a minute) the lockup occurs or I get a black screen. No way to recover except to power of and on.

I have a Samsung SynchMaster 770TFT (17" thin display). No USB hubs. There are no IRQ conflicts and the Sound and Video cards use differeint IRQs

Yes - this is a royal p.i.t.a. x( ... especially when it happens on short final!

I plan to call VisionTek tomorrow and see if I can get any help. If so I will post.

There is an issue with Geforce cards and Hardware T&L. Turn it off in your display settings.

Hi Georgi - yes, I am the same johninchicago from Train-Sim, but I'm afraid I can't claim responsibility for the Chicago Route.

How are you? I miss seeing your extensive posts on Train-Sim, however, I understand. I've been fully bitten by the fs2002 bug and have visited Train-Sim infrequently since having received it as a Christmas present.

Glad to see a familiar "face" on Flightsim...
