Default Installing Professional Edition over Standard Edition

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-02 AT 09:33PM (EDT)[p]Two months ago, I purchased and installed Flight Simulator 2002 Standard Edition. My father then realized that I spend so much time playing Flight Simulator (22 hours in November and 28 in December)he should have gotten me the professional edition, and purchased it for me for Christmas. I am now proceeding to install the Professional Edition and am wondering if I need to uninstall the standard edition first.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

Do I have to uninstall Flight Sim 2002 Standard before I install pro?

I'm sure there will be less issues if you do a clean install. It most likely will work either way, but I would uninstall/ reinstall if you don't feel like doing it twice.

I run both FS2k and 2k2 on Windows XP. No problem. The disk 2 of 2k must be left in the CD drive but 2k2 doesn't need one.

It should be okay, as long as you install it into the same directory. Keep in mind though that it will overwrite all of your .cfg files. So if you made a whole bunch of chages you will need to redo them.
I would just do Uninstall/Install. Do a HD Defrag after Uninstall, this way you will have a fresh start.

He's talking about FS2002Std and FS2002Pro. The registry will only recognize one of them(last one installed).

Here's how I would do it if I had made any changes to my original fs2002. First, copy the entire fs2002 folder to another temporary folder. Then uninstall fs2002, reboot your computer, defrag you drive, then install fs2002Pro , full install, and make sure it is running properly. Copy the files from the temporary fs2002 folder that you want. If you didn't make changes to scenery, gauges, etc., then you don't need to copy those. Usually you make changes to the aircraft files. This way you keep those modifications you already did. When you are satisfied that you have everything you want from the temporary fs2002, then delete, defrag you disk again and fltsim!
