    Default Help - Recognition of ATR in FS2002

    Fellas,
    I'm having difficulty getting the American Eagle ATR 72 recognized as "American Eagle".
    I downloaded the ATC callsign list and replaced my FS2002/airlines.cfg file with it and selected "American Eagle" within FS2002, however ATC still recognizes me as "experimental".

    I've searched through the Flight Veterans Tip site for any info I might be missing. Am I correct in assuming that Microsoft just left out the sound files that would normally allow us to hear certain airlines being recognized?
    Because I was under the understanding that by installing the updated "airlines.cfg" file that was going to solve the problem.

    I even checked the ATR's "aircraft.cfg" file and this is what I got:
    [fltsim.0]
    title=ATR 72-212 American Eagle
    sim=ATR72-212_2kv3.3
    model=
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=
    kb_checklists=ATR_check
    kb_reference=ATR 72-212_ref
    atc_type=ATR72
    atc_id_enable=1
    atc_id=D-XX
    editable=0
    ui_manufacturer= ATR
    ui_type=72-212 American Eagle

    What needs to be changed here? Thanks.

    That ATC calls you experimental has nothing to do with your american Eagle callsign, but that it doesn't recognize the name under ui_type=72-212 American Eagle. In other words there are no wav files in the default sim with this name..so, it searches... finds nothing and calls you experimental...

    To change the name of the airline, add to your section the atc_airline=american. Again the sim has no default wav file for american eagle or something like that. It's nice that the file you downloaded has that name, but MS doesn't, so unless you include your own wav file with that name you won't hear it...

    Oops, forgot to add, change the ATR name to Aerospatiale AT72 and you get recognized...

    Sadly, a lot of the downloads available for Airline names are misleading. They include names that are NOT recognised by A.T.C.

    For the full list of recognised airline names, (and also aircraft types and models) see the FS2002 Tips (Banner link at the top of the page).

    I believe the callsign for American Eagle is "Eagle Flight".

    Thanks for the replies. I figured that access to the sound (.wav) files which would read back the correct airline were either missing or inaccessible. I appreciate the confirmation.

    Here's what I did to get as close as possible:
    1) Open up FSEdit through the path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\FSEdit.
    2) Click on the "Aircraft" Folder (so it's highlighted).
    3) Click "File" and then choose "Open".
    4) Selected the "ATR 72-212 American Eagle" plane.
    5) Highlight this plane.
    6) Scroll down on the right until you see the "ATC Type"...choose "Aerospatiale".
    7) In the "Model" field, choose "AT72".
    8) Save this format.
    9) Make sure M$ FS2002 is not open.
    10) Make sure the plane you edited is highlighted and click "File" then click "Fly this plane!".

    Even if you put "American Airlines" in the "Airline Field", it still won't recognize that airline callsign because that particular .wav file either doesn't exhist or we don't have access to it. But atleast this setup will get your plane recognized as, "Aerospatiale"...whatever that is.

    Thanks for the help as always. C'mon Micro$oft, give us a patch. I finally get one of my favorite aircrafts installed and I have to deal with a little nuance like that. Oh well, I still enjoy the plane very much.

    This sounds about right, I gave you the aerospatiale name cause I believe they are the ones who make the ATR, but others might prove me wrong on this....

    Another thing, have not checked this (yet), but it might be possible to record yourself a wav file and add an entry to the aircraft.cfg file so it recognizes it...it will sound strange, or you must be good in impersonating someone voice...
