Thread: Help, Problem re-installing FS2K2!!!!!!

  1. Default Help, Problem re-installing FS2K2!!!!!!

I had fs2k2 installed on my system from the day it was released.
I was then running windows 98se. I shortly there after upgraded my system to windows xp(home). To do this I formatted my drive, did a clean install of win98, and without installing any programs on 98se I installed Xp. I then installed all my applications including FS2k2. Everything worked fine untill I installed an application before reading the instructions and it made it impossible to start windows.
I then decided to format and partition my drive again.

I did this by repeating the process I stated above.
This time when I installed FS2K2, the installation seems to go fine .(ie. no error messages), but when I start the sim I get to the point where the sim is loading the scenery files and then I get a message saying something about sim cannot find scenery files. The thing is the files that it names is nothing but gibberish. That is it names the files something looking like this(#$^*)These are not the exact characters I am just trying to give an example of what it looked like.
The sim then goes on to load. However, the scenery looks like a half of it is missing. Ie. no auto gen scenery, and the mesh looked like a kids drawing. attempting to use the sliders in the sim made no difference.

After exiting the sim and attempting to restart I see the screen with the B747 then my windows desktop appears. I get no error message or anything, desktop just appears and thats it.

I have uninstalled and re-installed about 7 times from lastnight all with the same result.

I am at a loss as to what to do now.

    My system is: Thunderbird 1.4
    Gforce2 GTS 64mgs
    768 mgs pc133 memory
    asus a7v133 Mother Board

    Fs2k2 Professional Edition.

Do you have dual boot situation? If so, what side did you load the apps on, Win98 or WinXP? Did you do a complete install or a compact install? If all else fail, I recommend you reformat your entire drive again and start over making sure you have each operation system operating with all the updates. If you don't have it, visit the http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/reviews/winxp/ and follow their example.

Before you start, check your CDs for obvious scratches or smudges.

Thanks for your response, I do not have a dual boot system. I am running XP upgraded from 98se.

The information at that site is still worth a read. When you do the install of XP, did you have Win98 installed or just have the disk/CD available for verification. That is one reason to stay away from upgrades, they can be pains.

Thanks, I went to the site and printed the info. I already had 98se installed and then upgraded to xp. On the weekend i am going to format and install xp again. This time i am going to attempt to install usig the 98se cd for verification only. Until reading the info at the site i did not know that it was possible to run the xp upgrade without actually installing a previous version of windows first.
    Thanks again.

    Robin.
