    Default Computer Reboots?

I've searched this forum for specifics on computer reboots, and haven't found anything that addresses this question directly. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

My FS2002 runs fine on daytime flights, but as soon as dusk comes, and I switch over to night flying, or even worse, try to take off at night, my system reboots. It doesn't crash, it just reboots. I have defragged my hard drive, and my system or cpu isn't getting "hot". Is there an answer to this? Anyone else?

I had this EXACT same problem. I am using WinXP and it turned out to be the latest NVidia drivers. I reloaded the XP supplied drivers... problem solved.

Besides drivers, I have found heat is causing a lot of problems. I have an AMD XP 1800+ and after following the recommendations of AMD concerning heat dissipation, I had computer halts. Check to see how hot your system is running if you have one of the high speed CPU, either AMD or Intel.

I'm using the Nvidia Drivers 2.1.8.3.....release date of 9/14/2001. using Windows 2000 professional, on a Tyan Tiger Motherboard, with dual 1.4 athlon processors....... I have a GE Force 256 32mb ram card. I have 1.5 gigs of ram. My system usually runs smooth at a frame rate of 28 to 30, depending on the terrain, and as high as 45 frames per second, from spot view at FL 350.

I have NO problems with heat. My processors never get higher than 105 Deg, and routinely run at around 85 to 87 degrees. I have a very intricate cooling system installed, and have learned that the best way to get the machine to stay cool is to keep the side cover on, and suck air in from the front, with huge fans running at 5400 rpm each, and push the air out of the back with the same type of fans. I went with the room fan pointing at the processor, until I was told thats not the BEST way to do it. Once you create a vacuum inside the box, then the problem with the heat dissapation is gone. I also have a fan directly underneath the video card, sucking air off the processor and out the back. So it is not HEAT.

So, I am hearing that the 2.1.8.3 driver maybe my plight? Which driver is recommended? Is there a later one?

thanks in advance for the help! Happy New Year to all.

I EDITED MY ORIGINAL REPLY SINCE I cured my computer halts following the AMD suggestions. My original reply indicated I continued to have computer halts.

Thanks for the reply. I had problems earlier in my career with Athlon's, but I've since cured it after researching, and realizing that you have to create a vacuum inside, and suck air in the front, and blow it out the back. My heat problems have been non existent, during FS2002, for example, it rarely goes up over 105 degrees, with 140 being the boiling point. Don't think its heat. I just wish I knew what the hell it was. :)
