    Hey Joe,

    Word of warning:

    Having had several years experience in both java and IRC chat as an op (moderator) - be very careful, particularly with irc.

    Once you let mirc or the like through your firewall, you leave yourself wide open to a whole host of nasties and beleive me, especially when it comes to mirc, there are a whole tub full of them knocking around for public consumption. Whilst most are just "kick" toys, I've come across a few that can do permanent damage to your hardware, never mind software.

    I personally only use java chat (that's when I have time to chat at all) these days as it's a lot more secure.
