Default The Times I wish I were a "real" pilot

Last night my wife and I were driving to some friend's for
a NYE celebration. As we were driving I noticed what I believe
was a 737 on downwind for 35 at MHT..I looked a bit to the east
(as my wife was talking about something ;-) ) and saw a huge,
orange full moon rising in a clear sky..and all I could think
about was the view those pilots must have had..<sigh>

Yep.. aint it romantic :-lol

and the poor suckers in the 'pit were thinking..

"look at that lucky SOB going to a pissup for new year whilst we have to fly this goddarmed route on NYE of ALL nights !! "

:-lol :-lol :-lol

;-)

the average pilot's (commercial) day is hours and hours of sheer boredom followed by a few minutes of terror !!!

:-lol

Some truth to that to be sure. However, I still prefer the view from my "office" window. Flew into MCO last July 4th and the aerial view of all the fireworks was well worth the fact I was working.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-01-02 AT 02:55PM (EDT)[p]go to your local ga (general aviation) center and hire a pilot to take you and your wife up for a sunset flight. See the sunset and then have him fly you to a place without any city lights. The view from 6000 ft without light polution, even from a cessna cockpit, is totally awesome! The pilot should cost you $20/hr and the plane should cost around $70/hr.

Spring for the Skylane at 250K, but don't get the purple interior.

You should see a snowy landscape from 5000 ft on a night with a full moon and no city lights. It is like magic.
Few years ago my friend and I were up when there was the comet Kahoteck (not sure of the spelling)It was a spectacular sight seeing the tail and all the stars. The airliners were asking for permission to do turns so the passangers could see the sight.

The view of the Northern Lights at midnight from the cockpit of a 737 enroute from Fairbanks, AK to Barrow or Prudhoe Bay is like nowhere else in the world.
