FS2002 sound problems

Happy New Year simmers and all.

Does anyone have a remedy for crackling sound in FS2002?

Have installed on 2 machines and both have same bad sound especially in ATC voices.

Check your virtual memory setting.
If you turned it off because of plenty of available memory,
it will cause this problem in win98 and ME (at least on my computer).
Check the directx diagnostic tool. Directsound testbutton should work with both software and hardware buffers (hw accelaration full). If not, at least you'll have a quick and dependable way of checking for improvement :-)

I have been Having the same problems I sorted mine out like this :-
(1) Go to "CONTROL PANEL"
(2) Choose "DIRECT X"
(3) Select "DirectSound"
(4) Click on "MULTIMEDIA PROPERTIES"
(5) On "Preferred Devices" Make sure that YOUR SOUNDCARD is selected and not "game compatible device".
(6) Select APPLY then OK out...
(7) REBOOT computer...Recheck in DIRECTX that your soundcard is selected...

This worked for me and cut down all the crackles!!

I am running under windows ME (Mostly Eratic!) - I tried your steps to correcting the static - but Direct X does not appear in My control panel. I have run dxdiag and tried different settings for the sound acceleration - does not help. Any other suggestions? Thanks
