Default Ethical Issues of Keeping or Deleting Carenado Files

I'll admit it. I'm still peeved about the Carenado controversy, and I'm looking to the Flightsim.com community for some advice. I had purchased two aircraft, the Warrior II and the Cessna 172 KAD, mainly for their visual accuracy. I really enjoyed flying them, but I'm considering deleting the files in a show of support for Steve Small and Dreemfleet. On the otherhand, I could use the Dreemfleet panels and .air files directly and keep the model and textures.

I'm curious about how some of you who also purchased Carenado files are responding. Wait and see? Dump 'em? Keep flying because you already spent the money, but don't buy anything else?

Your opinions would really be helpful. Thanks.

As a disinterested party, with no allegiance to either Steve Small or Carenado, I'd say ditch the files if you believe that Carenado have infringed copyright.

Personally, I believe that copyright should be respected, and if you agree with me, keeping the Carenado products is not an option.

Not sure that I would really agree with that! I think that the guy has paid good money for the stolen files and I feel that he ought to be free to use them. He did, after all, buy them in good faith. However, none of us should buy the files, now that it is proved that they were stolen.

Well, that's just how I feel about it.

It is actually quite a nail-biting question, for those that have paid obviously bought the product(s) in good faith and, let's be honest, would be none the wiser if the issue hadn't been brought to everyones attention. It's not as if those that purchased it did so from a `man in a pub`...

It APPEARED legitimate. Our mistake, as we now know...

I'd like to hear from anyone who purchased the products AFTER the expose here on Flightsim, but before Avsim bothered to act.

FWIW I have yet to remove them from my hard drive, but I haven't left them `as supplied` either. Nor am I using them at all. However, once the expected (snigger) refund has been made I intend removing them completely - Probably about the year 2007 at current response rate from Carenado! They took the money instantly, but can't seem to grasp the English necessary to refund within a month of Sundays.

Further indication of the true nature of these types!

It's a morally ambiguous quandary, for sure... However, note that Steve Small has removed his freeware flight models from the public. I do not expect this to be the last ramification of all this. The `decent` thing to do would be to seek a refund from Carenado, then dump their products from the hard drive. That would be the best way to show unity, support freeware and condemn software piracy.

Until then, well it's an individual decision...

I am in New York, and all I have heard about is the WTC. I have NO idea what is going on with Carenado. Can someone please fill me in on what I missed?
