    Default Replacement Default Textures

    Howdy you lot and Happy New Year!

    Here's a question that I could probably work out for myself but as the world is still spining at the moment I'm hoping one of you more sobber guys (or gals) could help :-)

    I've just added a BA 737 texture to the existing default textures. I downloaded a whole bunch of them, but before I installed all of them I just wanted to see if the BA 737 was working.

    Kicked open FS2002 and under Boeing the BA 737 was present...Good start. I created a IFR flight from Heathrow to Stanstead to see if the BA 737 appeared as a AI aircraft. But I got NO AI aircraft at all. Not even chatter. I reset the sim and set the ATC traffic from 35% to 100% and started the same flight, still no traffic.

    Is the additional BA 737 screwing up the AI? Have you guys and gals had the same thing? Is there a way around it? Will my head stop spinning before I go to work tomorrow? Will Slarty buy me a pint?

    Cheers

    Probaly, Yes.
    AI stops working if some huge changes are made in cfg file.
    Also, only 1st 3 repaints are used as AI traffic.
    To avoid this, when you put in new texture, you SHOULD make chnanges in cfg YOURSELF.
    Do not allow the cfg that came with repaint to overwrite your original cfg.
    Using FSEDIT to make changes in plane that IS used as AI is also known to make AI not to show up at all.
    I had same problem, and solution was to reinstall the game.

    I wrote this 2 month ago. You might wanna try this steps. This WILL NOT change the AI planes.
    AI planes will remain as same paint as default if this method is used.

    Well, there are many nice repaints out there, but on most of them, author puts
    CGI fie that REPLACES other repaints you have made or added.
    Well, there is an easy solution.
    Instead of following authors instructions, follow these.
    Let me use Matt Naragon’s awesome -USAir livery for the default FS2K2 Boeing 737-400,
    “usa7342k2.zip” found at http://www.avisim.com. Hope this wasn’t a problem Matt.

    1. Extract the zip file in temporary folder; it will make a folder “Texture.9”

    2. Now, instead of putting this “texture.9” folder in to b737_400 aircraft folder,
    Rename it to…. let’s say “texture.USAir”, or something unique, and put it into b737_400 aircraft folder.

    3. Open up the “aircraft.cfg” file from your temp folder using Notepad.

    4. Now, look for this section, and Copy it.

    [fltsim.9]
    title=Boeing 737-400 Paint9
    sim=Boeing737-400
    model=
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=9
    kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check
    kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
    atc_id=
    atc_airline=US Air
    atc_flight_number=1562
    ui_manufacturer=Boeing
    ui_type=737-400
    ui_variation=US Air (old colors)
    description=One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service.
    atc_heavy=1

    5. Open your “aircraft.cfg” from b737_400 aircraft folder.

    6. Scroll down till you see:
    [General]
    atc_type=BOEING
    atc_model=B734
    editable=0
    performance=Cruise Speed \n477 kts 550 mph 885 km\/h\n\nEngines \nCFM56-3C1\n\nMaximum Range \n2,059 nm 2,370 mi 3,810 km\n\nService Ceiling \n36, 089 ft 11,000 m\n\nFuel Capacity \n5,311 U.S. gal 20,104 L\n\nEmpty Weight-Standard \n76,180 lb 34,550 kg\n\nMaximum Takeoff Weight\n138,500 lb 62,800 kg\n\nLength \n120 ft 36.45 m\n\nWingspan \n94 ft, 9 in 25.9 m\n\nHeight \n36.5 ft 11.13 m\n\nSeating \nSeats 147 to 168\n\nCargo Capacity \n1,373 ft3 38.93 m3\n\n

    7. Now, make 3 line spaces between “[General]” and “atc_heavy=1” which is right above it,
    and paste what you just copied from “aircraft.cfg” file from your temp folder.

    8. Find where it says “texture=9”

    [fltsim.9]
    title=Boeing 737-400 Paint9
    sim=Boeing737-400
    model=
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=9
    kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check

    9. Now, change that “9” to “USAir”. Remember our folder name was “texture.USAir”?
    what is coming after the “.” Is the texture that FS2002 will recognize.

    10. Also, change where is says ”[fltsim.9]” to the number following previous aircraft.
    (if this is your 4th paint, it will be “[fltsim.3]” if it’s 5th it will be “[fltsim.4]”. Remember, one numbers less than number of paints you have”

    11. Also Change the “title=Boeing 737-400 Paint9” ‘s number to same bnumbers as “[fltsim.9]”

    12. So after all, it should look something like this.
    [fltsim.9]
    title=Boeing 737-400 Paint9
    sim=Boeing737-400
    model=
    panel=
    sound=
    texture=USAir
    kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check

    13. Save the file, and run FS2002. New Paint should show up Under 737-400 Variations.

    Sorry guys, I’m not good at explaining, but hope you got this.

    Default RE: Replacement Default Textures

    For the AI aircraft, check if the following files are in your aircraft folder:

    airlines.cfg
    default.CDP
    default.dp

    If not, retrieve them from your CDs.
