LAST EDITED ON Dec-31-01 AT 10:58PM (EDT)[p]Right click of the file you want to change it to NOT read only, select Properties,
and at bottom you'll see 3 check boxes. Uncheck "Read-only" Check box, and click "Apply" then "OK"
Hope this helps.

ok but which file do you do it to for aircraft that you want to edit in fsedit? i looked at almost all the files in the aircraft's folder and i can not find one with the read only checked.

could somebody tell which one it is that i have to change?

I'm not sure about this one. I know there is a way to do it, but forgot how.

Gidday!!

I assume you are referring to the aircraft cfg file but you can use the following method for any of the NotePad type cfg files whether they be aircraft, sound, panel or scenery 'read only' cfg files.

-Find a cfg file which isn't 'read-only' of the type you wish
to edit - eg if you want to edit a 'read-only' aircraft cfg
file find an editable aircraft cfg file.

-Copy this cfg file - just to the folder where you find it
will do.(Should save as 'Copy of Aircraft').

-Open this cfg file, then edit\select all\ and delete. This
leaves you with a blank, editable cfg file. (You could make
a couple of copies of this blank cfg file for future use,
before proceeding).

-Open the 'read-only' cfg file you wish edit, then edit\
select all\copy. Open the blank, editable cfg file you
created and paste. Save and close this new, editable cfg
file and use it to replace the original 'read-only' cfg file.
(You perhaps should make a copy of the latter file before
commencing just to be on the safe side).

-You can now edit the new cfg file to you hearts content...
(Remember to change the file name to 'Aircraft' or whatever
type of cfg it is).

Regards from downunder

In general

Highlight all the 'read only' files in explorer
Right click on one and uncheck 'read only' and click 'archive'
Click 'apply'
It will change all files you highlighted.

aPPARENTLY VERSIONS OF wiNDOWS AFTER 98 CAN MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO DO THE FOLDER AND ALL FILES INSIDE WILL BE CHANGED. bUT IN 98, YOU HAVE TO HIGHTLIGHT THE FILES YOU WANT CHANGING.

Aside from removing the READ-ONLY flag from the file itself, in the aircraft.cfg file there is an option under the <General> section which reads, "editable=0"...change this to a 1, and you can muck around with the flight characteristics in FSEdit.
