What a crappy way to end a flight...

[font size="1" color="#FF0000"]LAST EDITED ON Dec-29-01 AT 11:20PM (EDT)[/font][p]I just got 1.2 hours in FS2K2 flying the Piper Tomahawk from columbus ohio to the north end of the state to a little airport just off the coast of Lake Erie. Friggin' 3rd party aircraft..fly over the field, turn downwind, turn base and add 1st notch of flaps, turn final and last notch of flaps, a bit high and I can make the runway so I cut the engine and glide in. Right on the centerline..friggin perfect! Flare just right and hold to bleed off airspeed and then !!#$@!#$%##$^#@#$!$! sparks and smoke..I'm like WTF?? Landing gear is fixed so it was down...I replay the video of the last 60 seconds and the touch down should have been sooooo sweet...but instead the stupid main gear wheels sunk into ground resulting in what the game considered to be a crash. I could have cried. I flew the whole route VRF using only my Detroit Sectional and everything went perfect.

aaarrggghhh...Man, that should have been a perfect landing with a nice taxi to the tie down. But instead my dreams of flying great are dashed thanx to stupid 3rd party aircraft!!!

Oh well. It was a free plane. But #####!

Oh yes. Its happened that I crash landed, FS crashed, or some idiotic AI Md-80 decides im not important and just flies right past me on final, causing me to crash. When I make a long flight with all the maps and stuff, I usually keep the sim on ignore damage. I really really hate it when something goes wrong all the way in the end. another thing I do is saving the flight constantly, so I can try landing again if i screw up.

I hate it, I used to take instant replay back a few seconds in my flight, and just do it over again (if you go into the instant replay menu again in FS2000 or FS98, it will have a cancel option where the flight will be where you left it a few seconds ago, but in FS2002 once you crash, you crash wheather you can save yourself with instant replay or not.

If I'm having an unusually good flight...where everything is
going well despite weather, etc...I'll save it somewhere near
final, just in case I screw up a crosswind landing (as I
did just a couple nights ago at COS and again today at MHT.

I completed a full VFR flight from Brisbane to Darwin then all of a sudden Flight Sim decided to automatically shut itself off and return to windows.

I hate when that happens. Yesterday I was making a flight from Renton WAS. to half moon bay near SFO but about the Orgon border I got tired and spotted a place to land. This is with my continues flight that started in Austin TX with the Commander. Anyway I spot this runway from 10,000 and circle donw to the glide slope but the glide slope is 30ft over a hill and the runway is very short but i decide I can get it donw there anyway. It was the most perfict landing I had ever done, the back wheels hit the very edge of the cement dead centerd. I let the nose drop and got on the brakes then came to a full stop about 10ft from the other end of the runway. Awsome job i watched the replay about 10 times then went to taxie into takeoff postion, save, and quit. I taxied off the end of the runway and got it turned arround when my nose sunk putting my tail straight up into the air and "CRASH" right before my nose gear got back to the concrete. I was pissed, A flight that I had invested 20hrs + into went up in smoke thanks to a compter glitch.

I've had exactly the same problem with the same plane. I just read that in the update for the Zlin 142, that one improvement is the fixed gear will not retract. Seems that something must be configured in the modelling of the plane so that fixed gear aircraft don't retract there gear when 'g' is pressed on the keyboard. If you experiment with the plane you'll find that once you're in the air if you retract the gear they will still appear to be down, as they should be with a fixed gear plane, but flightsim thinks they are up. If you then try to land you'll get sparks and a crash.

I'm not an expert on building FS planes but it looks like this is a problem that has to be accounted for when building 3rd party aircraft.
