    Default Display setting question(s)

JUst upgraded to a new CTX EX950F 9"monitor and am running into some strange things. Hope a few of the hardware guru's cab explain. Old mnitor was a CTX 17" - had desktop display set at 800x600/75hz refresh - 32bit. Had dislay set from edge to edge. Video card GeForec2 GTS 64M.

FS2k2 was set to 1280/960 and I usually run in fullscreen 3d mode. Display filled crt edge to edge top/bottom.

With new monitor (19") using recommnded 85hz refresh the fs2k2 display fills screen BUT is actually a little too big. Hit ALT for menu and can just barely see it at the top. Red pause messsage can't be seen at bottom. I can resize the screen but the menu always stays at the top.

Now for the funny part ( to me anyway) - changed the fs2k2 display setting to 1280x1024. Now the full screen display has a black border 1/2" on sides and top and 1/4" on bottom BUT menu and all messages are clearly visible.

    1)Why does this happen?
    2) How can I get the display to fill the screen AND still display the menu, etc?

I'm really puzzled why changing monitors has had this effect - the video drivers (Nvidia 1241) are the same.

    Thanx for any help,

This is not really a problem. It has to do mostly with refresh rates and the way your new monitor reacts to them. Try different refresh rates for the same resolution. You can also manually calibrate vertical and horizontal size with the monitor controls (this is actually a common thing to do when getting a new monitor). Personally I would also stay away from non-2:3 aspect ratios like the 1280x960.

It is perfectly normal for a new monitor to behave differently from the one you're used to.

I'm set at 1280x1024 now and it looks sharp.
The CTX has a broad range of refresh rates so I'll tweak a bit and see what I can do. Worse comes to worse, the current setuo with the black space on the edges is liveable because the display quality is so sharp.

Thanx for that. Keep forgetting that the monitor is a separate entity that occasionally needs tweaking of it's own.

    Happy New Year - :)

Simply adjust your monitor controls.. nothing else needed.
the monitor will save the setings for each refresh rate.
