Default Anyone use the Suncom SFS throttle?

Hey everybody I was looking at this throttle unit because it provides two engine control levers but I read somewhere that it takes up the rudder axis in some games. Does anyone out there have any experience using this unit? Any positives or negatives would be appreciated.

I looked at buying it, but I didnt because I didn't have the money and it is apparent that you would need to modify it, it appears to only plug into A SCF(or whatever it is) joystick.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-28-01 AT 04:05AM (EDT)[p]I have used one before and quite enjoyed it.
Pluses: Lots of nice buttons that are extremely useful and well
layed out, modeled after an f-15 throttle control.
Very easy to program. Can be programmed at any time.
The tension can be adjusted to make it stiffer or looser.
It IS cross compatable with non suncom sticks BUT
read minuses below, (I originally used it with a MS
sidewinder 3d pro)
Minuses: I could not use it with my FF stick. My Throttle was
a year old so I am not sure if they are the
same, but since it plugs into the sound card and the
stick plugs into the throttle, you cant use it with
Force Feedback sticks. Newer FF sticks are usb, so it
may work this way, I don't know.
It seemed to wear out very quickly and I had to send it
back, they sent me a new one that was also broken and
I complained so they sent me another that did work
without asking for the old one back, that was nice!
the unit itself is pretty solid, but you will need
something to fasten it to that can go next to your
left leg. It is not configured for left handed use
since it is madelled after a jet fighter HOTAS setup.
The suction cups on the bottom are useless for keeping
it stable.
The dual throttle appeal is kind of a scam in my opinion, here is how it works, the throttle is split into two levers that can be locked into one. You can set it for all throttle control or split control but the the other only works the rudder control. Seems pretty dumb I know. I guess there may be a way to configure your rudder control into a second throttle control, but it depends on if the game itself has this option, and then you would have to control rudder with the keyboard. However if you are into jet fighter sims, it is quite good and I used it lots for Falcon 4.0 and Janes F/A-18.
Would work well for Civil aviation sims like FS2K2 but the realism factor will be lessened cuz the throttle settup is on the other side.

Yes I do. I run CH usb yoke with CH usb pro pedals. This allows me to connect the suncom throttles to the gameport on the soundcard. You must have a standard analogue joystick connected to the throttles as the gameport needs to recognise an X and Y axis. Then go into FS2002 controller options, and set your throttles to engine1 and engine2 and disable the X and Y options for the throttles.. My throttles are 3yrs old, work perfectly and differential throttling sounds brilliant, especially on the beechcraft baron.Handy for those tight turns when taxiing.
Happy new year.
