Thread: CH Pedals!

  1. Default CH Pedals!

OK, I have at last decided to get myself some nice new rudder Pedals. My budget isn't very high, but I have set my eye on CH Products. The only problem is: What model? Standard Game Port, Pro Game Port or Pro USB?

I am not sure what I should choose. I know that Pro USB is almost twice as much as Pro Game port. I own a Logitech Wingman Force 3d Force Feedback USB Joystick, but I don't know the difference between USB and Gameport. (I do know the basics, as accuracy and hot-swapping, but I am not very interested in that).

    Could I hear some tips?

In general, computer architects have as dumped analog joy sticks like last year's eggnog for both digital and now digial/USB game ports. The problem with analog game ports is that the CPU either can't do anything while it "times" how long a capacitor charges a resistor, or as it seems to be with me, it tries to multi-task and doesn't always make good measurements. My analog rudder pedals are very choppy/noisy because of it.

That isn't to say that budget minded people should score a killer deal on ebay (got mine for $50). I'm running dual analog ports (rudder + toe brakes) and although I take both a frame rate and quality hit, I just would rather spend $300 flying/upgrading my real plane than on a new set of pedals.

Thank you guys. Although I still don't understand the big difference between Analog and USB.

For you guys with analog peddals or Joysticks, does it really slow down your PC? How about those who have USB devices?

Is there any other big difference?

I've commented on this elsewhere, but in general analog was conceived back in the early 80s and there wasn't much thought about how the technology would scale with everything else under the sun. Intel, in defining USB, has done much better homework and anything that is USB will work well in the next 4-6 years and won't do bad things as platform performance is extended.
