Default What you enjoy doing most in FS (any version of course)

Hello fellow flightsimers,... Here I go again not haveing to work for a week and a half (starting today) :D So I thought maybe I would hang out here every now and then, shareing with you on what I do and how I do it, while I sim. (FS2004: ACOF).

Anyway, about the only thing "I" do now in FS2004 is fly actual commercial flights (I get real flight info from the web) worldwide, I only fly American Airlines flights out of the airlines 4 major hubs (KDFW, KORD, KMIA, and KSTL) and/or where the airline has service to/from. i.e. KDFW->KABQ->KORD for example. Part of the reason why I do this is because I have prety mutch done everything else with FS from Sport Flying, Aerobatics, Military Missions (Combat, Humanatarian Aid-HUMIT, Airlift), Bush flying, Racing, the list goes on and on. . . I have a small 2 drawer fileing cabnet full of FAA and JeppCharts (paper) AND charts within my PC. History books on airlines and flight in gen. PCPilot, Airliner World, Airways Magazine, etc. lol too much stuf. :P I also squese in flights from other airlines within the One World allience (British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malev Hungarian, Qantas Airlines, Royal Jordanian. Now, I only fly to and from airports that are serviced by these airlines, quite a lot of destinations if you ask me, "and" problably covers all destinations every other airline serves too. :P (dont quote me on that, I havent had the time to research that!) lol

All in all this "system" (if you will) I have is quite entertaining, I exert myself for 100% realisim while siming, Real World Wx, Real aircraft damage, real time (NO TIME COMPRESSION), Real, real, real.

So share with me you FS world (again any version of the game) and however real (or unreal) it may be, and if you wish share your thoughts on the world of aviation and its effect on Flight Simulator. Or vice versa.

    Thank you for stoping by.

    Hi :)
Somewhat like you, I fly almost exclusively commercial flights - UAL and AA with KORD as my base (hometown for me irl). I use POSKY 757's merged with the LD-767 panel, and the LD-767 to fly real world flights for these airlines.
I also am meticulous about AI (100%) at all my airports (all payware and feeware adds), parked at real world gates, real world weather and GE Pro and ASV6.
I do occasionally get the bug to fly props, and will then fly my Aerosoft Beaver Float and PZL Otter (in BFU colors)around Ontario and Manitoba, where I go fishing twice a year. Also will fly the Cessna 206 (also in BFU colors) around these parts. Less often, but still fun, will fly the default 172 & 182 (with updated model/air/cfg files)in various paints from my home area airports. Also have a nice Stearman for when i'm in a nostalgic mood. :P
Then I will fly the CH-47 Chinook, Hueys, Cobra, H-500, when I get the rotor bug.
Every aircraft I fly, whether default, add-on, or payware, is modifued in some sort, be it panel add's, .cfg tweaks, etc.
    Love it all!! :)
P.S. I also subscribe to "Flying" and "Airways" mags, both which I highly recommend.

    Hey Qball...

You like flingwings?!?! :P lol Just kidding.

I havent fished in years. Anyway, on the subject of editing things like cfg's and the sort, I find it absalutely nesasary to do so because of the "little" imperfections the may, or for that mater may not have that make the AC behave the way they do in RL. (Fuel flow, contact points, preferd wing view locations, engine preformence, etc. Few times I have found AC (Freeware) that just show they shouldent fly at all! But with the nesasary tweeks, edits, and fixes she preforms like a priceless work of man made perfection. :)

Speaking of GA, I have found my place with the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan (any variant) and "my" RL home airport is in a small nook near Fort Polk, LA. called Leesville (As stated below) Home of the 4th Bgde. 10th Mtn. Div. (Spent 3 yr. in the 10th up in Fort Drum 2nd Bgde. 11B) Loved the winters up there, when I was stateside. :P

    Hi again Alex,
You definately dive deeper into the airplanes .cfg deeper than I, as you seem to posses a clearer working knowledge of the "stuff" in there. I can only go as far as the basic sections like lights, effects, or just plain using another updated file from the freeware libraries :P
I keep saying, someday I will know more of what every parameter does in the aircraft.cfg file, or panel.cfg file - but that "someday" has turned into 10 years now! :P
If you have some time, see my post in FS9 forum about Smoke coming from my float planes during water taxi, takoff, and landing. I just can't seem to find the effect file that is causing this to happen. Maybe you have some ideas? But I don't want to hijack this post, so if you do maybe you can pm me, or respond to the post??
    Thanks, and take care!

    Navigation for me.

I spend hours creating flight plans to various points around my State, flying point to point using nav aids, headings and time.

If there is an event around my area, I look up the location on a map, get the coordinates and fly there and back.

Scenery means nothing to me, my blurry ground textures have no affect on my enjoyment of FS9. Which, by the way seems to be the only "short coming" for my Machine.

    Hello again all,...

Hey Qball, I will look into your post and try to get info on your effects problem, sounds like it may be some kind of "damadge" problem? Hmmm... I will PM.

Hey Garrovic, navigation is one of my top priorites with being "Realistic"
I need to download an INS/IRS (Internal Nav. System/Inertial Reference System) for some of my AC. I have done flights 12 to 14+ hours in duration several times out of LAX, ORD, DFW to Aisa and it would be somethig to keep me busey. :P

Anyway, I just compleated the AA171 flight from EBBR (Brusels->New York) service, geting into JFK at 12:56 (36min. late Grrr) the winds were BAD gusting. I had to go around (Ldg Rwy. 31L) What was realy entresting was when I checked on the real flight on aa.com that particular flight was 26min. late. :P Yea, I like to keep it real...

O.K. well I will see you later.

I started out flying by numerical gps, now w/ that practice, if I had a handheld gps, I could fly anywhere in the world. Now I almost exclusively fly precision gps Great Circle routes from six to 15 hrs each hop. Completed one flight around the world nonstop in 68 hours with the Virgin Atlantic Global Flyer.

I fly nearly all jets, 85% 747's, less the rest of the airliners, biz jets especially Lears and Gulfstreams, King Airs, once in a while big and small props. I like high Mach planes also. Fighters are nice too.

All of my flights are full flights around the world w/ each hop within the range limits of the plane, and real time. I've completed 347 flights around the world. I have landed/departed from I think every region of the world including N & S poles. I'm not sure if I have flown to every single country, but I have landed/departed in about every region; and have landed at all of the most notoriously difficult airports in the world, and for the most part I've flown to just about every significant airport in the world.

Also, I like to multitask, now I'm flying seven flight sims at the same time, I get a lot more practice that way.

    Alex,

Well...I like to have a good time...hee hee!

I've been very lucky lately, I just got three more monitors, one to replace a bad monitor, one to upgrade, and I still have two excellent monitors left over, the problem is that my progress has really slowed on building another flight sim computer(s). I almost had another one lined up, but found there were some bad capacitors on the board. If I got a Slotkit A I might be able to JAM that processor into one of my other flight sim computers. Perhaps this summer I'll have more luck and find some more hardware for another computer(s). An additional benefit to all this flight simming and hardware is that hopefully I have shed my past work reputation of being compu'er illi'eritt. I'm a scientist, did mainframe and scientific mathematics programming in college, but because I never broke down and got one of those useless pc's I developed a bad repuation at work for being computer illigeracy, you know, like turning it on, or off, I tried to learn something from watching the computer work done in the movie "Zoolander", but when I had some time off, I found I had to break down and get on those boring pc's and lurn something. Then I discovered flight simulators...soon I was doing NASA shuttle style landings, and flying through zero visability, down pouring rain, high winds and turbulence and pitch blackness, landing, grabbing some frozen pizza, and starting all over again. The value of the pc has been redeemed! Flying seven at the same time is a lot of fun, requires a lot of concentration, it's more challenging. Once in a while I turn on all the speakers and listen to all seven of those 747 engine banshee wails, the neighbors were probably not aware of how close they were to a major airline hub and traffic pattern...hee hee!
