As I recall, they fly everything in and out of Memphis.
They once flew everything in and out of Memphis for the overnight delivery service.
Now they have some regional centers so some packages do not make it to Memphis.
But the centralized gather, sort and redistribute model remains the key to their service, and the companies who copy them.
But FDX is much bigger than just overnight packages. They have a major presence in the surface trucking industry, they are one of the biggest on-demand cargo aircraft charter companies.
They fly a large number of the world's race horses - from the Middle East to Europe to North America to Japan to Australia.
They once flew the CART Indy cars on special flights. They might still do so, and who is flying F-1 these days?
You're right, they used to use only Memphis and now have several locations. I've been to the Memphis facility to watch their operation. It's quite a site to look up at a couple hundred planes circling and every 2 minutes one comes in. They land about 200 planes within a few hours.
What is the peak hour for arrivals? I would like to check that out on www.flightaware.com. I guess this says it all here: http://flightaware.com/analysis/grap...t?airport=Kmem
I have a friend who is a FedEx pilot. I think most of the 727s operated out of KMEM, though at one time he spent a couple months in Paris flying the 727 in europe. That was a while ago and they may not fly that aircraft anymore there.
I think many of their other aircraft fly via other places, including KIND and KOAK.

It's not a major Fed Ex hub, but here in KORD'ville we see 727's, A300's, and MD-11's daily, and once in awhile a classic DC-10. :)

most of FedEx's KORD traffic is routed through KIND which is a regional hub for FedEx, just like KRFD is a UPS regional hub near KORD.
