I think that you should include Orville and Wilbur in your thanks, also.

OBTW, did you know that Orville was the pilot in the first fatal air crash? He was flying one of his early planes around 1909 or so, and he crashed while carrying a U.S. Army Signal Corps Officer. It must not have upset the government too much. They gave the Wright's a contract to build planes for the Army anyway.

Orville died young, but Wilbur lived until the late 1940's or early 1950's, I can't remember exactly. Anyway, when Wilbur died, the USAF flew the missing man formation with their first production jet fighter, the Sabre jet.

I read an essay by a woman who actually saw the Wright's fly their first planes in a farmer's field outside Dayton, Ohio. This field is now part of Wright-Patterson AFB. Anyway, when this woman was a little girl, her Dad took her and the rest of the family out in the country to watch the Wright's fly their plane. This was the summer of 1904, the year after their first flight. It's funny, because this woman says in her story that everyone thought that the flying plane was a "trick" or that it was so complicated an achievement that no one would ever be able to master it except the Wright's themselves. And anyway, what good would it do to be able to fly like that anyway, huh?

Imagine what it must have been like for Orville and Wilbur that summer in Ohio, circling above that farmers field. Except for a few balloonists, they had a view that no one had ever seen before. Their aren't many people that can say that.

A project is never done, watch for an update on the engine starting problem. Just don't shut down the engine! You'll never get it re-started without switching to another plane!
