Default A scene from McGuire AFB, New Jersey- 1995 airshow...

First of all, the picture was taken by my parents, and I wasn't at this show back in 1995 at McGuire AFB, New Jersey.

Second, I don't know if the planes are exact as the real photo may be a C5, but they sure look very alike, huh?

Awesome job for project Opensky! If you're reading, I love your work...

The C17 is more like a Hercules with jets anyone agree....
the c5 if you had a bigger look around you would find there not alike really at all apart from the paint colour

The C-17 is touted as having the short field capabilities of the C-130, the outsize cargo capability of the C-5, in the size (length and wingspan) dimensions of a C-141. That probably sums it up the best. The only problem, it needs a minimum 90' wide strip, the Herk only needs a 60' wide strip.

    Hey Dave-

I've done some work on the cargo system in the C-17--suffice it to say that that is a pretty incredible aircraft. :D

    Hi Christian-

You are right when you said that the photograph is a C-5 Galaxy and not a C-17.

I remember when it was first being tested. Came out to Pope AFB for some airdrop testing and I got a chance to check it out. First time on the thing I was pretty amazed at how large it actually is. From a distance it doesn't look so big (I think it has to do with the relative size of the cockpit windows - they're BIG). Get up close and you think, "now this is a serious aircraft."
    I LIKE IT!
