Oh! Say! That’s a pretty one, Jeff!

Looks like WWII/Korean era Vintage though… Is that just an illusion? Maybe they’re a little more recent than that, huh?

    That’s cool, though!

Super shots of it, too – as always …

    I especially like the 2nd & 3rd shots, though all are excellent…
Looks like a very nicely textured one too…

    Cheers!

    Tia,
Here is the info on the T-28. The North American T-28 was both an Air Force and Navy trainer used from 1950 until the late 1980s. It was built in 3 versions, A, B and C. In 1952 the Navy evaluated the T-28A as a replacement for the North American SNJs, and asked North American to replace the Wright R-1300 with the Wright R-1820. With the bigger engine, the horsepower increased from 800 to 1425 and the propeller was changed to a 3 blade constant speed prop. Sometime in 1961 the U.S. also decided the T-28 would work in a ground attack role. Some B models were modified, and sent to Vietnam. The T-28C was first built in 1955, and was basically a B model that had a tail hook and could be used on aircraft carriers.

Probably more then you wanted to know but it is a neat plane.

Things which do you no good in aviation:
    - Altitude above you.
    - Runway behind you.

    Ah-ha… Thanks Jeff…

No, actually, that quite pegs just what I was wondering very nicely.

“Trojan” – I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of before this morning… I may have in passing but it never “meant” anything to me.
T-28, I’m sure I’ve heard of before – and almost certainly in some connection with Nam.

Is it that all service birds used as trainers usually start with the “T” - ? ..or is that, also just another coincidence thought up by my kooky-logic? ;-)

Thanks again for the detailed response Jeff.
Just the right amount and nature of info to satisfy my curiosity entirely…

    Best –

    Tia

Your 'Kooky Logic' is correct! Here are a few other examples of some US a/c designations:
    A- Attack
    B- Bomber
    C- Cargo
    E- Special, Electronic
    F- Fighter
    H- Rotary Wing
    O- Observation
    P- Patrol
    Q- Drone
    R- Recon
    S- ASW

Navy Squadron designations then follow using these prefixes"
    H Rotary
    V Fixed Wing
    F Fighter
    A Atack
C Composite (more then one 'type' a/c.
    P Patrol

so a squadron designated VFC-13 would translate to "Fixed Wing Fighter Composite, Thirteen"

There, that is it in a Nutshell!

Ohhh… Yes, I see… That makes perfect sense. Seems I must have known most of those in some ‘earlier life.’ :-roll
Sometimes I feel like I’ve already forgotten more than I’m likely to ever learn again.

    Think I knew about the A, B, C, E, F and O before – but quite forgot… The rest, I don’t believe I ever was aware of.

Many thanks for this, too, Jeff… :-)
    Sure helps!

Speaking of the “O’s:” Just before I closed my FS2K for the last time – the day before I picked up my FS2K2 – I got a little OV-10 Bronco.
I’d been looking for one for ages it seemed, having really liked that little guy ever since reading – A Lonely Kind of War – a really nice book on FACV (Forward Air Controllers, Vietnam), by Marshall Harrison.

I don’t known if you’ve any interest in that sort of thing – you usually strike me more as the “fighter-jock” sort, which – of course, I hope you don’t find offensive my saying in any way, as I mean it only in the most affectionate and appreciable sense.
But it is a marvelous little book (well, “little:” 285 pgs. in hardback – not a “booklet,” but not a monster-read either).

Anyway – really came to deep appreciation for that little OV-10.
I got one and even loaded it in FS2K2 one time – but it looked… Mmmmm… well – bad.
I would Sooooooo love to have some nice SS’s of an OV-10 though, I’m still planning on taking it up sometime and see what may be possible.

I’m wondering whether you might have any interest in the same?
I can point you to the file I’m pretty sure if you don’t have it as yet – or, best of all, you already have a better one! ;-)
    - Or, would even be happy to send it to you or set up a D/L for you if you like.

The thing is – you seem to have the ability to take those “marginally-attractive” birds and squeeze the best shots possible out of ‘em…
I have some real reservations I’ll ever get anything worth keeping from this one – but I’d wager you might be able to get something from it.

Anyway – sorry for this loosely-parallel tangent: just seeing your allusion to the “O” designation snapped the little OV-10 back into mind real-quick…

Please let me know if you’d be at-all interested in giving that a shot? That would be really neat!
Of course no-worries if you’d as soon pass, too – quite understandable… :-)

Thanks so much again for the accounts given for me in this thread, Jeff… I don’t even want to know all there is to know about any plane – let alone every one of them…
But there are some that pique my curiosity enough to where I just sure would like to know this or that about them.
You hit the nail right on the head re: this nice little T-28.

    All the best, as always…

    - Tia

    Thanks John,
I guess I take for granted sometimes that others, especially the younger people don't have the same background.

Like your sig too! Don't 'ya just love the Vargas style girls?

I really do enjoy the "Vargas Girls", there are some many great artists out there - it is hard to pick just one!

I remember having an old Life magazine from I think 1963 that had a great photo section of a reporter's tour with the South Vietnam Airforce. He went up in the Trojans with the ARVN pilots and snapped pix as they went in for bomb runs...now if I can just dig it out of whichever box that it is stored in, I'd scan them...but....you know the story re: old boxes full of magazines. Which one and how deep down?...lol.
