Default What should I upgrade? RAM or Video card?

    Everyone,

specs. Athlon 1700xp, 256mb ddr ram, geforce 2 32mb ddr.

FS2002 runs great on my system even with sliders up. But CFS3...different story. The game runs fine if I turn the sliders down but I want to turn them up. The game really slows when things start exploding.

Would I be better off buying a new video card or adding more ram?

I'm thinking either a geforce 4 or adding a 512 stick of DDR ram.

    Thanks,
    David

I would recomend, if you could afford it, to do both. I have a 128 MB GeForce4 Ti4400, and 512MB of PC-800 Ram...and my system runs well with the sliders at about 4....but I do tolerate some minor stutters when things get really crazy...but thats just me.

Here's a link ot an OPED I did some time ago. You may find it interesting. If nothing else, it should help you to decide, if you have to go one way or the other.

    Check it out

    Hope it helps.

    Geoff,

    The links broken.

I just want to know whats going to bive me the biggest improvement. Between...

A 512MB stick of DDR so I'll have a 256 stick and a 512 stick. I do have the room for another ddr stick.

    or...

    A geforce 4 card.

    Later,
    David

if you decide to upgrade the memory, make sure you're running XP because 98 doesn't manage that much memory ... XP will.

Copy the link and paste it into your address bar.
Dunno why it does that,,,,,,,,,,, strange.
And , yes you will have problems if you use 512mb of Ram, or more, in win98.

In 98, you're fine up to 512. Anything over that is too much for 98 to handle.

Personally if you can't afford both, I'd do the video first, then the RAM later.

I'm using windows 2000 not 98. Will 2000 handle over 512 of ram?

I'm not sure about Win 2k Pro. It might considering it's a business/server operating system, but you'd have to ask someone else.

Windows 2000 pro will take up to 4 gigs of system memory.
