i was just curious how this was done in gmax... i realize that there is some xml coding involved but if someone could maybe provide an example or an explination, it would be apprieciated

You will get faster and better help at http://freeflightdesign.com including an entire forum devoted to XML Parts code, tutorials, and some of the most respected names in the freeware and payware community, such as Milton Schupe, Bill "Lionheart" Ortis, Chuck Jodry, Felix Rodriguez (who in spite of his public modesty actually knows a LOT)... ;)

That other website is mostly "kiddies" who - frankly - don't know diddly-squat... :+
