Thread: WINGTIP NAV LTS REVERSED?

  1. Default WINGTIP NAV LTS REVERSED?

    I recently D/L & repainted the outstanding iFDG A318 model for my VA pilots. I guess to say that I was shocked on discovering that the wingtip NAV lights were reversed in the modeling is an understatement. So I dutifully entered the iFDG forum and was even more shocked to learn that the model has been like this since it was released, well over a year ago. There have been many comments/complaints /requests regarding this issue not only in the iFDG Forum but the other top FS forums also. But apparently none of the ‘movers-&-shakers’ on the iFDG staff feel that this warrants their immediate attention. It’s a shame that such an outstanding model such as this is markedly flawed and none of the principals want to fix the problem

    I don’t profess to be a FS modeler. I am a retired pilot that dabbles in repainting acft for my VA but I find it hard to believe that the issue of swapping the wingtip NAV lights out is that big of a deal.

    Would someone plse explain what would be involved in doing this? Could an ‘amateur’ with no previous skills accomplish this task and if not would someone in this Forum be willing to perform this task for me?

    I appreciate any feedback & tks in advance.

    Hello, Joe,
    It may be a very easy fix:
    1.Open the plane's aircraft.cfg file with Notepad.
    2.Scroll down to the Lights section.
    3.Identify the nav lights by the "=3" entry:
    light.0 = 3, -6.60, -19.29, 0.79, fx_navred
    light.1 = 3, -6.60, 19.29, 0.79, fx_navgre
    4. This correct example has red on the left, -19.29 ft, and green on the right, 19.29 ft.
    5. To correct a faulty placement (of symmetric lights, of course), just swap the negative sign.
    I hope this is useful.
    Regards.

    Unfortunately the iFDG cfg is a bit different. Take a look:

    [lights]

    //Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing

    light.1 = 3, -59.40, 0, 5.07, iFDG_A320_whitenav
    light.2 = 2, -59.40, 0, 5.07, iFDG_A320_whitestrobe_tail
    light.3 = 2, -15.45, -54.68, 4.36, iFDG_A320_whitestrobe,
    light.4 = 2, -15.45, 54.68, 4.36, iFDG_A320_whitestrobe,
    light.5 = 1, 3.070, 0, 9.00, iFDG_A320_redbeacon_top,
    light.6 = 1, 6.381, 0, -5.10, iFDG_A320_redbeacon_bottom,
    light.7 = 5, 19.88, 6.463, 1.93, iFDG_A320_inspection,
    light.8 = 5, 19.88, -6.463, 1.93, iFDG_A320_inspection,

    There is no section that covers the colored nav lights. Apparently they are ‘wired’ in the mdl file itself, or at least I think that’s what they did?

    Hello, Joe,
    Yep, it looks like these nav lights are built into the mdl file and not accessible. Sorry for misleading you. -- Dennis
