    Default Scaling in gMax.

Can you scale on only one axis in gMax? I mean, you know when you click the scale button, it scales on all axis'? Say I only want to scale on the x axis, and not on the y and z axis', can I do this? Also, how do you "hinge" objects? I don't want to have seperate parts, well i do kinda, like on a rudder for example. On my rudder, I want a trim tab and a rudder, and the rudder it self is attached to the vertical stabilizer. Can I "hinge" (I don't know if this is the right way to say it, but this is the only thing that I can think of to describe it by) the rudder trim tabs to the rudder? Or do I have to cut out spots in the rudder and then fill them in with another object as my trim tabs? If it's not clear I'll try to explain better or draw ya a picture. Thanks alot.

Scaling on one axis: Yes, you can. Activate the Non-Uniform-Scale button (is in the fly-out of the uniform-scale-button) and activate the axis on which you are working.
Rudder: Depends on what you want to do. If you want to have the trim tab move seperately in FS you will need an separate object for it. A sensible workflow would be the following:
    - Create the general overall shape of the vertical stabilizer
    - Cut out the rudder from the vert. stabilizer (e.g. by using ShapeMerge)
    - Cut out the trim tab from the rudder
    - Rename the rudder to "rudder" (using "rudder_anything" is also fine)
    - Rename the trimtab to "trimtab_rudder" (again, any extension of the name is ok, eg. "trimtab_rudder_test")
    - Link the trimtab to the rudder (so that it moves with the rudder)
    - Adjust the pivot points of the rudder and the trimtab so that they conform to the axis of movement (FS will rotate objects with stock names around the z-axis). Go to the hierarchy panel in GMax, activate "Pivot only" and move the pivot point to the desired location (e.g. the "real life" rudder axis). Then rotate the pivot, so that its z-axis points up and is aligned with the desired axis of rotation. Then select the trimtab. With "Pivot only" still selected, move the pivot to the desired location and again align it nicely to the axis of rotation (the "real-life" axis of rotation of the trimtab). ;)
