Thread: fallen at the first hurdle

  1. Default fallen at the first hurdle

I can't get the 3-view drawings i have to match the size of the calibration box. using sizes from the manufacturers website) the two things just don't match and they are noteven close.

Are my drawings wrong or am i missing something.. i have the unit set up as i am working my way though a tutorial but instead of ding that plane i am doing another one

    I presume you're using gmax.

Are you setting up the 3-views in the viewports or mapping the 3-vies to planes?

Your first task is to make sure that your 3-views are in proper scale on to another. Generally, I crop the images tightly, and then compare image sizes. If my top view has a wingspan of 27feet and length of, say 23feet, I'll make the width of the top 3-view 270 pixels, and its height 230 pixels. My front view, cropped to the wingtips, will also be 270 pixels, etc.

taking the front view again. I'll map that top 3-view to a plane that is 27 feet wide by 23feet wide (same proportion as the top 3-view)

This gives me a scaled object that I can accurately place and freeze, and will not "jump" around.

Check the several tutorials on the matter at Freeflight Design Shop's Tutorials Section http://www.freeflightdesign.com

What plane are you building and what tutorial are you going through?

citation-x but now since changed after i got another set of 3-views for something else that i managed to get aligned to the sizes the website gave..

i'm looking throughboth the discreet tutorial and another one by Hugh Shoults.

i am now stuck n getting the non - uniform scale to work so i can shape the fuselarge... the centre piont at which they scale around is wrog and i can't see how ya change it

Now THAT is something that took Inspector Poly about a year to figure out.

In the default gui setup, right under the "Maxscript" menu selection, you should have a scroll down bar that has "view" in it. Click and set it to "Parent" THis is your reference coordinate system for that view. Next to it, is another icon. Inspector Poly says to click on it and set it to the bottom icon "Use Transform Coordinate Center" (of course, check out the other combinations, one is just right for the purpose)
