Can textures for the default planes in FS2002 can be used with the defaults in FS2004?

That would depend on the *.mdl file being the same. If it is not, then no the textures would not be assigned/wrapped in the same manner or would show at all.

This same thing occurs with previous flight sims also.

I have just test the default 737/747/777 model in fs2004, seems that it's ok to use the old textures.
