Thread: Micro stutters when ATC speaks

  1. Default Micro stutters when ATC speaks

I am getting intermittent micro stutters whenever ATC speaks in FSX. I have disabled the auto ATC window, and also disabled ATC text. When the ATC feature was introduced in FS2002, the stuttering was much worse. With various hardware upgrades over the years the stuttering has vastly improved, but it's still there. Does everyone have micro stutters when ATC speaks, and if not, what sound card do you have? I'm thinking of getting a Sound Blaster XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Professional, but I want to make sure it will eliminate the stuttering. My old card is an Audigy 2.

Given your hardware, you should not be experiencing any audio stutters whatsoever in FSX. Sometimes audio stuttering can be due to an interrupt conflict. Have you tried putting your sound card in a different PCI slot?

I always pick a PCI slot for the audio card that shares the least number of IRQ assignments. In your case, that would be PCI Slot #2 (see the IRQ charts on page 1-23 in your motherboard manual).

In any case, you only have two PCI slots so try your sound card in the other slot and then re-install the latest drivers from Creative.

I'm not saying this will fix your problem for sure but it is definitely worth a try.

Thanks Noell for the reply. Although it's still early, the stuttering problem seems to be fixed. I opened the Device Manager and found PCI IRQ 16 assigned to three devices (Audigy 2, 7900GS, & JMB36X). I moved the Audigy 2 to PCI slot #2, as you suggested and the stuttering went away. Now IRQ 16 is assigned to only the Audigy 2 and USB controller. Thanks again.
