    Default FS9 CRASHES TO DESKTOP

I just installed two 1GB sticks of Kingston RAM on my motherboard. The PC reads it--shows I now have 3GB where before I had only one. However, when I opened FS9, I was only able to operate the sim for about two minutes before it crashed to desktop.

The first GB came with the machine. The other two were shipped as a "kit." All of which I think means they're Dual Channel (or DDR).

Everything else works fine. Can't figure why FS9 would disable itself after having more memory added!!

Anyone have an idea what the cause might be? Any constructive ideas are most welcome!!

    Thank you,

    Hi bush,
I will ask the obvious question first - is the matched pair the same type memory as the 1gig you started with?

    Qball,
The first 1GB is made up of two 512MB sticks, which are plugged into the DDR1 and DDR3 slots (orange) of the Gigabyte mobo. The new 2GB is made up of two 1GB sticks each plugged into the DDR3 and DDR4 slots (blue), respectively.

    Hi Len,

Remove the 2 512mb sticks and run just the 2 1gig sticks.

Go to the manufacturer's website of the new ram, and find the exact part# you ordered and see what voltage the new ram requires.

Carefully read the Motherboard manual (go to Gigabyte website and download one, if you don't have) and place the 2 1gig sticks in the correct slots for running dual channel.

Set the voltage on the Motherboard slots, in BIOS, to match the voltage recommended.

That should stabilize the system - Let us know.

Thanks for the responses!! I removed the 512mb sticks as Randy suggested. Actually, I removed them, then tested the system stick by stick to rule out a corrupted stick--this included the 1GB sticks. All tested O.K.

Randy, I was so wary of the new ones that, until I do the research you suggested, I just plugged the 512's back in and so far, FS9 has run well--just with 1GB total RAM.

On another forum (I believe it's Geeks-to-go), one of the elders suggested I check out the timing of all four sticks, to make sure they're compatible. Somehow, I think that's in line with your suggestion. I'll do the reading tomorrow, then post Mon.

    I appreciate your assistance!!
