Thread: A little more respect please.

I think there was a psychological study some years ago which said that when people are hiding behind the anonymity of the keyboard and monitor that they will vent their rage much more easily. I think that is very true, but additionally I have been a FREQUENT victim of Office Rage myself, and there are a lot of people who feel free to vent their rage in person too. And even more so on the road, there's no shortage of Road Rage these days. I hope that one day we can eliminate SUV's in our lifetime. Why can't Detroit design something that is much more aerodynamically practical, and burns fuel very efficiently, so that we can all go out to buy groceries in something more like a Le Mans prototype car, or a snappy foreign model with a name like Formel Eine!?

I think internet forums will always be very emotionally volatile until society matures with this technology. There's one person who even today was blogging with hostility. Some people may have more than just Forum Rage they might have a deeper psychological problem. On the other hand they might just be mean spirited, with little tolerance to questions that are beneath them.

Or perhaps we should just go with the flow and change the "Post message" button with, "Post your FORUM RAGE NOW!"

PS: I wonder if there is any record of RAGE, when past new technology came out, like TELEGRAPH RAGE, or SHORTWAVE RADIO RAGE? It sounds kind of silly doesn't it? New computer and internet technology is perhaps such a large increase in technology compared to what we were used to only a few years ago that perhaps it might take some time to mature into.

I know, perhaps we should blame it on Microsoft! Ya! And press that "Post your FORUM RAGE NOW!" button!

And the bad side of human nature also seems to find a way to work itself into this new sea shell, and there is crime on the internet also. Reminds me of the movie "Outland" with Sean Connery, where they somewhat shock the audience with the notion of crime in space.

I have a lot of fun on these forums, and have had fabulous assistance on many topics, I don't take any of this for granted. If I had my own 747-400, I'd take you all out for beer and pizza in Tokyo! Hee haw!

Another PS: perhaps I was wrong:

I was out doing some boring errands and thinking this forum rage thing over, and was thinking, perhaps I'm totally wrong. Perhaps maturing into this new technology is a bad thing with regards to FORUM RAGE, in the same way that automobile traffic just gets worse, and incidents of ROAD RAGE increases with time instead of decreasing. OFFICE RAGE is a term that is not very old, however I wonder if it has been increasing over the years, or if people in general have always been miserable and nasty at work, and we're just now putting a name on it. In my experience in recent years, it's hard to say whether workers have been going frantically angrily nuts at work, or if they were responding to when I was a candidate for lor enforcement. Not long after I became a candidate for lor enforcement, people at work seemed to treat me differently, in a bad way. I was given double duty angrily with a tad bit of a threat attached to it, soon after making my announcement. Then the next three jobs I had I was routinely harrassed, harrangued, theatened w/ physical violence, assaulted, and threatened with firearms, all at work, while I did my very best to be a model employee.

But out on the big freeways, I've seen some really crazy driving that's pretty scary, like perhaps 100 mph speeders that change lanes across all lanes, for example.

So I'm wondering if the trend in general society is to become more crowded and congested, with generally more unhappy angry people, venting their anger throughout the day, including on the internet, and perhaps it will only get worse. Perhaps similar to futurist scenarios such as "Bladerunner", or "Robocop" 1 and 2, etc.

There are some parts of the country where auto drivers are very courteous and obey the traffic laws. And likewise I've noticed some groups of people are extremely courteous on flightsim and avsim forums and I really wish to encourage that, and hope that the more angry bloggers don't drive them away.

I'd like to point out that overall flightsim's forums are absolutely outstanding in every way, except for a few incidents here and there where there were some angry outbursts. I've only posted one topic at avsim in a remote section of interest where I got excellent responses, so that is the extent of my experience over there. But because we are flight simmers, and some are real professional pilots also, I think that overall there is a very mature and professional audience on these flight simulator forums. I think generally less mature/less professional gamers that go for shoot 'em up games are mostly bored by flight simulator. But still, it might not be uncommon for computer people in general to have less patience, and vent their rage over computer issues freely.

I have to land my 747-400 at BIKF now. I hope you also enjoy your fights.
