Default FS2004 Help with graphic settings from experts…

    Hi!

I need some help from some experts… experts like you. I need help with setting up my graphics in my system. I have tried several settings and I don’t see that much better frame rate. My average fps is 16 fps… going as low as 11 and up to 22.

    My system:
    Shuttle Barebone SB81P
    Intel P4 3.2 GHz (800 Hyper-Threading)
    PC3200 DDR400
    Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300Gb 7200rpm 16Mb S-ATA
Asus Extreme N6800GT 256Mb (PCI Express) (Driver: XTreme-G_81[1].84.v2)

FS2004 don’t seam to “listen” to the graphical settings in windows nVidia settings. How should I set up my graphic card, FS2004 and what driver should I use??

    Here is my config:

IMO, the frame rates you are getting are about all you can expect if you want to run at 8X AA and 16X AF. So the first thing I'd do to get better FPS would be to drop down to 2X and 8X. If you don't like the look of things after doing that, up the screen res a notch or two while staying at 2X and 8X.

    Hi,

    Also try:
    1. Turning Off Render to Texture
    2. Set Filtering to trilinear
    3. Put Mip Maps at 4
    4. Make sure all your drivers are up to date including your motherboard drivers.

    Hope this helps,

Yeah at first I was boggled by your lower frames...then I saw your AA setting - holy crap! 8x! Yikes...yep, that will own your frames! Turn it off and see what happens. :)

Also, how does trilinear filtering make frames better? I guess I don't understand how that stuff works. 4 on the mip slider is decent, without AA though you could bump it up to 5 and IMHO things in the distance look better - and I don't get shimmering...just an opinion though :)

Oh, and another question, what exactly does "render to texture" option do in Flightsim?

    Hi again.

I’ve tried setting 2xQ AA and 8x AF but I don’t see that much better frame rate. :-(

    Another question...

If I turn filtering off in FS2004 and turn filtering on in the nVidia panel the graphic still looks crappy (noisy) in FS2004. Why? I mean I have it turned on, doesn’t nVidia and FS2004 “listen” to that setting??

    Kind regards

    Hi,

Because the FS04 settings over-ride your panel settings. Put filtering back to trilinear.

If you run dxdiag does everything check out OK?

    Hope this helps,
