    Default Advice Comparison

    Hello,

    Currently have a P4 3.0GHz
    Radeon 9200SE 128MB
    512MB Ram

    Upgrading to :

    Pentium D 2x2.8GHz
    ATI RX600 256MB
    1024MB RAM

    Thats the Basics of course!
I'm just wondering what would you compare the ATI RX600 to, and would this improve my gaming performance!

This is a manufactured PC! i'm upgrading too!

    Thanks for your input

    Paul

Nope, the dual core will hurt your FS9 performance as it is running at a slower speed. There are some other new games out that do seem to benefit a little from dual core, and the new nVidia drivers take advantage of dual core as well, but FS9 won't.

The memory and video card will help and could offset the slower processor, but I'm not sure by how much.

I see what you mean, surely a dual core for multi tasking is good if i want to listen to music while gaming?

    Hi,

No, because listening to music is a very low level CPU activity.

Now, if you were editing videos or running a CAD program or editing a great number of photos in Photoshop, then a second CPU would be helpful. Must stuff that "normal" users do is not CPU intense. No, e-mail is not, no, surfing the Web is not!

    Hope this helps,
    Jim

Having a lot of RAM is what you need for that kind of multitasking....not a dual core CPU...but yes, for intense mutlitasking with PS CS2 or ACAD, 3DSMax or whatever then yes, dual core would be good.
