Thread: my BIOS settings, indeed the values are low, see values

Default my BIOS settings, indeed the values are low, see values

the main settings are set to "AUTO", perhaps I have to set it to manual and reconfigure the h*ll out of it.

No FS settings/tweaking would help if the hardware is set to perform at 50% of its capacity (the other 50% is resting in peace, having a good sleep in there and doesn't want to be waken up...). That's why I think we had to look at BIOS settings long before I even installed FS, before I even held the FS9 CD in my hands...

ok, this is what we have with you here:

    under CPU Configuration:

    DRAM Configuration:

    MEM Clock Index Value: 333Mhz.

    shouldn't it be at 400?

    GAS Latency: 2.5

    under Jumper Free Configuration:

    CPU Frequency: 200.0

isn't it too blood-hungry little??!! it goes up to 400 in there, I checked it out.

    PCI Express Clock: 100Mhz

    PCI Clock Synchronization: Auto

other option is "To CPU", what is better?

    "CPU Frequency: 200.0

That is the default for Athlon 64 processors and is where you should leave it, unless you want to get into overclocking. There should be another setting somewhere that sets the CPU multiplier. The computer then takes the multiplier, multiplies it with the above frequency to get your processor speed.

For example, a 2GHz Athlon 64 will have the CPU frequency set to 200MHz and then multiply it by 10 to 2000MHz, or 2GHz. 200MHz x 11, and you get 2.2GHz, and so on. Overclockers will raise the frequency to push the processor higher.

What type of RAM did you get for this computer? There are some types that don't support DDR400 speeds and CAS latency of 2 for Athlon 64 systems. You could try forcing it to run at 400MHz though.

Can you run a 3Dmark05 and post the score...I know your having trouble with Aquamark3...

One of these two benchmarks will tell you how your System is performing...In my opinion it is the Only way to know...

Your CPU frequency should be 200 and it will use a multiplier of 12...you can download and install cpuz...

Your bios settings seem good...unless you plan to overclock...

Except I don't know why your bios is set to 333 on the RAM...I will look at mine when I get home...

ok we leave the CPU frequency as is.

My RAM is as stated below, 4x512MB Crucial DDR400, here's the very model number for all 4 RAM sticks: CT6464Z40B, no extensions after the last letter -

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146532

by the way, it takes a loooong time to save files such as BMPs and JPGs... something's fishy happenng with RAM, but this is another problem we will deal with next time, let's finish what we're on right now.

    >>Except I don't know why your bios is set to 333 on the RAM

let me know if I should set it to 400 please.

ok, there was a guy who said the following (let's look at what he says here):

---settings in your BIOS for the AGP (aperture size - actually SMALLER aperture is better as "aperture" means how much RAM the video card uses so since cards have plenty of their own memory, we should not slow down system performance by making them hog ram, so set aperture size to 32 or 64 MB max.).---

What's going on there? I can't find the settings for AGP (or anything that deals with "aperture size") in my BIOS.

edit: downloading the 3dmark, it's gonna take a while here...

This is why I dont like 3DMark05:

My system is perfectly capable of running FS9 at about 22 fps, but the slideshow that calls itself benchmark suggests it's dead sloooooow

well the animations are awesome though, I liked the third one, with a ship swimming through the air, then as it was about to get "breakfasted" by a booboo-monster, it fired its jets and flew the heck outta there... awesome I think.

If you take out two sticks of RAM does your frequency automatically go to 400? It could be a case of using all four dimms on the mobo reverting it back to 333. I ran into that with the first set of RAM I got in four sticks. Some mobos (I know the ASUS I run) have issues when you fill all four slots. Sorry if I missed something earlier in the post about this, I am jumping in late on a lot of pain meds and didn't read the entire thing :)

ok guys let's continue on this.

Paul: I read your comment and did the experiment: took out 2 sticks of RAM, and yes, the DRAM settings automatically went back to 400. Then I installed the 2 sticks back, and the RAM settings fell to 333 again. Well I can set it to 400MHz manually, I will do so (or not do so) after I hear you guys comment on this, whatever you have to say...

    Chuck:
So you have my 3dmark score now, so what's now? good score, bad?
