Thread: Please help-need some advice about my graphics card

  1. Default Please help-need some advice about my graphics card

    Hey all,
I recently bought an ATI x700 pro 256 and for a while I was pretty happy with it. But then I got addons such as landclass, US Ultimate terrain and activesky, while it looks beautiful, the frame rates are pretty lousy. I just got a new system (3.2 ghz, 1024 mb ram) so I wondered why it wasn't performing better. Then I saw the recently posted FPS comparison and wow, my card got destroyed (19 FPS). I am either going to try to exchange this card for a 6600GT (24FPS) or I just might fork out another hundred and get an x800 (44FPS). If the FPS increase would really be that dramatic on my system, I will definitely do that, but I first need to know If it really have that kind of effect on my system. If anyone has any advice, or anyone with comparible specs and a x800 or 6800 wants to chime in and report their FPS, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

I would definitly NOT buy a 6800. It's a good card, but out performed by the 6600gt. ..... Right now the best bang for the buck, 'hands down over any other card, is the 6600GT!

A 6800GT would be better, but more money.

ATI > X800, No! The X800PRO YES, but again, more money. The ATI Cards handle Clouds Much better than the nVidia cards, if you like weather.

Why the x800 pro? The x800 XT had better FPS.

    Hi Ben,

I was answering your question in the form you asked it. YOU SAID: "6800 or X800" ..... You made no mention of an X800XT in your querry.

Yeah, go for it, Get you an X800XT or a 6800 ultra ! $600 usd each.

Also, the ' x800 xl (the third time you have changed your querry Ben) at best buy, that cost $300 is a PCI express card.

Do You need PCI express or AGP Ben?

I need PCI-express. Sorry I haven't been very clear. Right now actually I have the top bid on EBay for a factory refurbished PCI x800 XL with a 3 year warranty ($220) and the bidding ends at midnight eastern tonight.
