    Hi,

Yes it does matter because AMD will not touch dual channel RAM. So save a few bucks! It will run, but at single channel speed.

For FS04 dual core is over-kill, but that is up to you! You may consider the 64 4000+ instead.

    Hope this helps,

Thank you for the advise, I didn't know that about the dual channel RAM... I was already debating about the dual core vs a faster single core, and now I think you are convincing me... :)

In regards to the RAM timing, which one is better?

    CL 2.5-3-3-6 or CL 2-3-3-6 ?

When it comes to RAM, I really don't know what those mean....?

    Hi Jason,

Haven't seen Ya around much recently.

I believe the lower #'s on ram are faster - Don't take my word on it though :) .

Your Dual processor > Who knows what FS10 will bring? - You'll kick Yourself in the BuTT if it's supported in FS10! You may want to take that into consideration.

Hi Randy! How's life been treating you?

Yeah I haven't been around for the past few months now... Really busy with work, and had also had a couple deaths in the family so haven't had much time for FS.

Slowly I'm getting a bit more time for fun though.... :)

Lower numbers being better is what I thought too, but I've seen a few places where people are saying that 2.5 for the first number is really good, but then why aren't they spending the extra $20 for the CL 2 stick? Figured I'd wait to find out for sure before I buy!

The dual processor thing with FS10 is one concern I'd have if I went with a single core, with my luck FS10 will support dual's!! I figure that just gives me a reason to upgrade again...!! As long as I have a S939 board I can also drop a dual in when the time comes, and I can always make use of the old CPU elsewhere.

As always, thanks for the reply Randy!

    Hi Jason,

Because the difference between 2.5 and 2 is not noticeable under normal useage.

    Hope this helps,

The Dual Channel thing depends on the Processor...My 4000+ will run Dual Channel RAM...Just read the specs of which ever one you decide on...The AMD processors have an "On Board" memory controller...

In a previous thread (Randy's) is an example of how the processor will choose how to run the ram to best suite it...well apparently it's just best to let it do it's thing!!!

If you notice mine as well...the third pic shows the RAMS Manufacturer Specifications...As you can see my RAM is capable of 2.0 2 2 6...but the Processor's memory controller is running it at 2.5 3 3 6 Dual Channel as shown in the second pic...I am just going to let it go as is till I learn more about it...he he

If you can swing it...The price of the 4000+ processor has come down allot...In my opinion it is a SUPER "Bang for Buck" Deal!!...Also note the 1024kb Level 2 Cache...

More and more I'm leaning towards the single core CPU. I'm actually looking at the same CPU that you've got (4000+ San Diego) - I bet that 1024 kb L2 is nice :)

I'll probably also go for the dual channel CL 2.5 RAM, that way if I ever go with a dual core CPU down the road, I've already got the RAM.

    Thanks for the help everyone!

    Jason
