Time for a bit of house-keeping I think.
Can anyone make a recommendation for something to use instead of Norton please.
Also, does anyone think just using the XP firewall is enough, or should I find a replacement for the Norton one?
Cheers.

Hi Paul,
I switched to 'Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2005. It has Anti-Virus Plus Firewall among other programs. You can download a free 30 day trial version here > http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/personal.htm
After install (remove all traces of Norton first) Disable XP SP2's firewall....only run one or the other, not both. XP recognizes the Trend Micro firewall, so you wont get warning messages.
If You decide to keep it, don't spend the $49.95 shown on the Trend Micro site, rather buy it from newegg.com or similar ..... $34.95. You can also get a $25.00 rebate from Trend Micro if you have a copy of your expired Norton transaction....WOW $9.95 for a full service Security system!
(2) Use Microsoft AntiSpyware BETA Also.
(3) Use LavaSoft Ad-Aware SE also.
(4) Use Spy-Bot search and destroy also.
Your PC is now (almost) 'Bullet Proof!

I like...AGV Free Edition...Zone Alarm...Microsoft AntiSpyware...LavaSoft Ad-Aware SE...Spy-Bot search and destroy...
I personally turn off all the services that have can, could, might have security issues as well...Actually I do it mainly for tweeking...but the added security is a spin-off benifit...I only have stand alone systems so I disable most all the networking stuff...and misc crud running in the backround...

HI Paul, I (as many other gamers) use NOD32 antivirus system, It's fast and doesn't take much power to use and have automatic updates everyday. Definitely one of the best antivirus software out there.

As for firewall i use XP-SP2 standard with no problems at all.
Kent.
Hi,
