Thread: New monitor upgrade should i or not?

  1. Default New monitor upgrade should i or not?

Presently i have a 19' CRT monitor and running 1280x1024x32 at 75 hz refresh rate, i regret not buying one that had a higher refresh at higher reolutions, should an investment be made here for fs9. Like an LCD or should i stick to CRT should i bother and do you think i will see a big quality difference visually in fs9. Example running at 1600x1200 or higher at a 85 or higher refresh rate?

Just curious to where others are at for monitors. Of course having a 21 or bigger screen is nice, but big and heavy if CRT?

if you can afford it, i'd look at quality LCD's, 19" or larger. i went from a 21" CRT to a 21" samsung panel. i really like the panel, the sharpness and vividness of a quality LCD is hard to beat, IMO. plus the form is much nicer. panels are not perfect, but overall i really prefer the panel over the CRT by a long shot.

I just went from a 19" CRT to a 19" LCD a couple months ago and won't be going back. Look at Dell's 19" and larger LCDs as they are pretty nice and generally cheaper than models from other companies that use the same parts.

As i understand it this will still not alow me to run the sim at a higher resolution right? Most LCD are at a native res of 1280x1024?

It depends on the LCD size but you are correct, you can't go bigger than the LCDs native resolution. And smaller usually looks terrible unless you tell the video card to draw the lower resolution centered with black bars around it.

    15" - 1024x768
    17"-19" - usually 1280x1024
    20" and above - 1600x1200 or higher
widescreen - 1600x1080, 1900x1200 or various other resolutions.

Keep your eye on Dell's site. They tend to have really good deals every few months. My 1905FP was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper in one sale.
