Default FS9 and wide aspect Ratio LCDs

Can someone tell me what happens with FS9 on a wide aspect LCD? I was looking at Dell's UltraSharp 2005FPW Widescreen LCD Monitor which has a 12ms response time and an aspect ratio of 1680 X 1050. Is that a fast enough response time to make "ghosting" acceptable?

most, if not all, of the people that i've heard feedback from with this particular monitor aren't bothered by ghosting in first person shooters. with fs2004, ghosting will be even less of an issue. so i think chances are you should be fine.

supposedly that monitor has the same LG panel in it as the apple 20" widescreen.

for more experiences with this monitor, search or browse through http://www.hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=78

you'll find a billion posts on it.

Yep, it does use the same panel as the Apple monitor. And ghosting shouldn't be a problem with FS2004.

This site might help with the widescreen gaming question. Some programs support widesreens out of the box, some need a few tweaks and some don't support it at all. I don't know which category FS2004 falls into.

I JUST tried FS on that exact monitor a week ago.

FS will produce that resolution in the menu once the monitor drivers are installed.

Ghosting is not a problem, I could detect a LITTLE bit in fast paced games like Unreal Tournament, but even there it was acceptable.

You will not have a ghosting issue in FS.

The widescreen format is just GREAT. You can see so much more of a virtual cockpit with it, and the outside too.

It's a toss up on whether I prefer it to my 22 inch CRT, as what I lack in width I gain in height. I think I get a more realistic view out the windows, but my friends Ultrasharp wins the contest when it comes to seeing the VC panels.

I will just say this though - you would NOT be disappointed in that Dell monitor.

Thanks for the great help guys! One more question, if possible. How badly will frame rates be impacted by a monitor this large? I typically have run at 1024 X 768. At 1680 X 1050 that is roughly 2.4 times as many pixels to draw.

That will be purely dependent on your videocard.

If you're running anything above a 6600GT/X700 class card don't worry about it.

If you're already processor bound in the first place it's probably not going to make a difference either, unless the new higher resolution makes your videocard the new bottleneck.

does not the widescreen format distort the FS 4*3 standard screen size in the way an HD Tv distorts the smaller screen by stretching and distorting the sides?

The Video card is a 6800 (not the GT Version). How do I determine if it is a X700 class card?

I'm wondering what happens to the 2d panels .......is that stretched or something ? How is that handled on a wider aspect ratio screen?

Yes the 2D panel and views are stretched. This could probably be avoided by creating widescreen versions of 2D views. I'm looking into doing that to my own panels. The VC and all other views look fine.
Just hooked up my 30" LCD and there are positives and negatives. At 1280X768 it obviously does not look as hi-res as my 19" crt. And the screen draw isn't as fast as on a smaller display. Other than that, wow it looks awesome.
