Default 33 people injured and they call it a "very great success"???

    Evacutation tests of the A380:

I wonder if Airbus is offering any compensation for the guy who broke his leg or any of the others who were injured since they apparently contributed to this 'very great success'.

33 people injured versus 853 dead or injured. I would say that is a success. And I suspect they all signed lengthy waivers absolving Airbus of any damages.

All the people in the test were employee's and thus will be taken care of under Workman's Compensation. I don't think anyone in a proper state of mind would sign a waiver saying Airbus is not liable for injuries during a test of their aircraft. That would be downright stupid on both parties. Airbus WILL be paying for the gentleman that broke his leg, it's as simple as that.

People get injured evacuating a DC-9 as well, and the door sill is probably around 7 ft off the ground. I would say it was a success considering the height of the aircraft, the amount of people, and the fact that only 1/2 of the emergency exits were being used. Give Airbus a break....

873 people through 8 doors in under a minute and a half...sounds good to me!

Besides, more than 1000 people volunteered for the drill...

Sounds like a great success to me!

If one is expecting zero injuries in an emergency evacuation, then one does not understand what one is all about.

The key is to get the people out. The sprained ankle or broken leg is sometimes expected. Better that than dead.

As said above, such injuries can happen on much smaller aircraft, and do!

There are often a few minor injuries when evacuation tests like this are done; the point is, a few unpleasant bruises is worth it for the knowledge that people aren't going to die needlessly due to some unforseen hitch in the emergency procedures.

While it is certainly understandable that you are going to have injuries when evacuating a plane during an emergency, the point is....this wasn't an emergency. It was a DRILL. The people involved were calm, they had time to prepare and they were (at least until they started to trample each other) not pannicked. If you have that many injuries during a rehearsed drill, I hate to think how many of those people would be killed in an accident such as the Air France runway excursion last year.

My point is, and perhaps it's just my business ethics, but I think it's sick to have a guy break his leg and a bunch of other people injured and be all happy about it and claim that it is a 'very great success'. Call it successful if you want, but I think 'very great' is pushing it.

If we ran an emergency drill like that in the Navy and had those kind of results, we wouldn't be patting ourselves on the back.

Didn't they already have the slides deployed before the drill as well?
